When a half-century old skeleton tumbles out of the wall in the midst of the renovation of Cloak and Dagger Bookstore renovation, Adrien turns to hot and handsome ex-lover Jake Riordan -- now out-of-the closet and working as a private detective. Historia
The days of allowing my inner depravity to run wild are over. I've been sent to prison for good, something of a celebrity in this dark, dank hell-hole they call Alabaster Penitentiary. The only thing I have left to offer the world is my story, and unfortunately for me, the Warden has the rest of my life to get it out of me. Being poked and prodded, examined and tested on isn't something I enjoy very much. Until they send him...

tone whiplash
Revisado: 03-07-24
Willisms and Billings narrations are so drastically different that their version of Felix and lem are 2 entirely different characters.
Billings lem Is warmer and more relatable. hes not supposed to be! multiple times hes described as robotic. williams lem is scary and it fits the overall tone. williams does a better job of selling the dark atmosphere of the book. Billings fails at picking up on the tone entirely. his acting is just over all Terrible. i understand why the author wanted him though. lem is meant to be black. but Billings is so horribly bad at lem AND Felix. (and everyone else jeez poor cheville) that his entire sections are unlistenable. I suggest reading lems pov whenever it switches from Felix because God knows I couldn't listen to it.
if you listen to only Felix's pov it's a good experience. dark and intriguing. Felix is by far the most endearing serial killer I've ever seen. and williams lem is captivating. you also rarely see poc bi main characters as well. so that's a bonus.
even though I don't think williams voice fit lem either. it's just waaay better than Billings. poor lem.
a damn shame really because this book is probably the best out of the entire series. do yourself a favor and just go read lems pov instead.

Historia
I've already mentally prepared myself to kill the screaming, murderous monster in the cage outside our camp. I'm used to it. It's what I do here. Kill monsters and other people. This monster, Seraph, is particularly unstable—has been since the moment he arrived from Collector Mary's monster menagerie to the west, where the military stashed him away. He's in pain. I can see it. But he's not a mindless beast. Not like some of the others think. When I start guarding him in his cage every night, I begin to see the person beneath the agony that tortures his every waking moment.

Dobbie
Revisado: 12-27-23
great story, terrible voice acting. why the HELL did he choose that voice for seraph??? it ruins everything. completely breaks all immersion and seriousness to hear this Dobbie sounding mf. Michael did such a great job for everyone else so why this??? it makes this book Borderline unlistenable.

Most people in Aleksey Rider-Mikkelsen’s life would probably assert that at 50, honest living and sobriety were long overdue. But recovering in bed from the lingering after-effects of his leg injury, bored, in pain, and feeling entirely irrelevant, Aleksey doesn’t much care what Benjamin Rider-Mikkelsen thinks. He doesn’t appreciate the close monitoring either.

Hunting for big bad wolves was never part of Agent Cooper Dayton's plan, but a werewolf attack lands him in the carefully guarded Bureau of Special Investigations. A new case comes with a new partner: ruggedly sexy werewolf Oliver Park. Park is an agent of The Trust, a werewolf oversight organization working to ease escalating tensions with the BSI. STICK WITH IT
Revisado: 11-17-22
I know I know I know. the narration is off putting in the first book. but stick with it it gets better!! Erik really improves in later books. especially the 3rd and 4th book. he slows down and really gets into character. his Cooper voice is really cute and his park voice really grows on you. if you stick with this series you will not regret it. lower the speed and you will be able to get through the first book.

Historia
Ben and Nikolas know that if they were to compare recollections of their life together, they’d remember things very differently. Ben never asks about their time together in the Department because he doesn’t want to hear Nikolas lie. Nikolas never talks about those early years because he can’t afford for Ben to know the truth. For the first time, since their strange meeting in Whitehall 14 years ago, Ben is forced to rethink his claim that nothing Nikolas could ever do would make him stop loving him.

That wasn't very cash money of you, Benjamin.
Revisado: 04-17-22
I love Ben and NIk so much. The flashbacks really recontextualized the first book. I had no idea Aleksey felt like this during the first book. it really just made him a much more sympathetic character.
everything was brought full circle. I just want them to be happy. I'd love a book of nothing but Ben and Aleksey fluff.
Gary did an amazing job as always.
Three cheers for the birthday boy!
