Everyone eats. Everyone needs to take in this book. Everyone (almost) will be better off for it.

Overall a very nice and educational story (or prophecy, rather?) that I recommend, but the author's choice of point of view in several scenes unfortunate decreases the dramatic effect. Some central characters deserve more time in the third act. Kudos for handling a controversial topic in a balanced way, and thanks for a thought-provoking vision of the future.

Super useful but at least in the audiobook it's unclear how much scientific evidence there is.

Makes an utterly compelling case regarding the problem of shortsightedness in the built environment. However, I expected much more on climate adaptation.

The book presents numerous good arguments worthy of thought and action, but also numerous poor arguments -- in much larger quantity. Keen is hell-bent on depicting the Web 2.0's relationship to traditional culture creation as a zero-sum game, not allowing any recognition to how they can also complement each other. What's worse, though, is that the author utterly fails to consider how the early flaws in collaborative online endevours, crowdsourcing platforms and the many ways to express oneself and practice one's passions -- and vices -- online can be both tweaked and revolutionized to work much better in all respects. These fatalistic positions make the book obnoxious to listen to, which is a shame. Had Keen taken a more productive stance and a more nuanced view on internet trends, his in many respects prophetic words could have received a larger audience and helped us prepare better for example for the all-out assault of fake news we see today.

It should be noted that much of the book is about problems of the internet (and humanity) at large, not about Web 2.0 in particular. Several chapters concern topics such as online gambling, porn addiction, identity theft, screen addiction, omnipresent commercialization of personal data, and data breaches, rather than platforms for crowdsourcing or for online-to-offline business, as the book's title suggests.

Has aged gracefully. Full of great examples. But a bit repetitive and lacking in examples/insights into when peering doesn't work.

Important. Well-argued. Balamced. Includes multiple perspectives -- sooner or later Kai-Fu Lee addresses all of the topics and counterpoints that arise as you progress through the narrative. The one, sad exception is the climate footprint and environmental impact that continued massive computerization can create. The author ar least touches upon most other aspects -- and for the most part does so convincingly -- but leaves this crucial issue behind. I can't help but feel that some repetition could have given way for such considerations. Another weakness is the lack of complementary per capita comparisons between the US and Chinese AI markets in all of the otherwise very illuminating statistics presented. These few blemishes don't matter much, however; this book is a must-read.
