I tried. I really did.
Revisado: 10-04-19
"Shooter" left me on such a high. Truly, I am more than half in love with Chris. So I wanted to listen to the rest of the series. I'd read the negative reviews, but decided to give this one a go. I got to about 60% and threw in the towel. I'm not a prude in any way and enjoy a wide variety of sexual scenes in books, but this was a bridge too far for me. The physical part of the relationship I could accept, but the emotional and mental domination greatly disturbed me. I felt humiliated on behalf of the character. This, to me is not love, or respect. So, while I adored "Shooter" with my whole heart, I won't continue with the series. Pity.

Enter Miss Charlotte Lancaster, unfashionably tall heiress to just such a fortune and a clumsy, redheaded disaster in her five London seasons. My favorite of the series!
Revisado: 03-05-19
This book was awesome. I fell head over heels in love with the characters and enjoyed their love story immensely. The conflict didn't feel contrived and I didn't get impatient with the hero and heroine. I understood where they were coming from and empathized with their reservations regarding their union and their future. The book was also incredibly sexy, with well-written love scenes.
My only complaint is with the narrator. Seriously, the woman has not come across a vowel she didn't manage to mangle. Nobody talks like that! It's not an accent, it's simple mispronunciation, most likely in an attempt to sound "posh". The result is an unique situation - the dialogue portions were actually quite good, but the narration bits were simply awful and it pulled me out of the story time and again. Fortunately I had read this book in print before and knew what a gem it was. If not, I would most probably have abandoned the audio version and returned it for refund.
Nevermind "Rescued from Ruin", this series should have been rescued from Mary Sarah.

Great story, problematic narration
Revisado: 02-10-19
First of all, I loved the story and the characters. By this, the second installment in the series, I have developed quite a tendre for Lucien.
Having said that, the narration detracted somewhat from the overall experience. I noticed a few issues in Book One, not enough to take me out of the story, but in this book it got a lot worse:
(a) The characters all sounded cartoonish. Amy came across as slow-witted and Charles as a 70-year old man with severe gout.
(b) The narrator had the unfortunate habit of becoming inaudible whenever he tried to soften Charles' tone. I feel as if I missed half the story.
I see that the same narrator is used for upcoming books in the series and will have to decide whether I'd rather read them than listen to them.

All the feels
Revisado: 11-25-18
I suspect this story will sit with me a long, long time. It was beautiful, yes, but more than that, it felt real. I understood what broke up this couple, despite their love for each other. Mia Sheridan created two remarkable character who really earned their HEA. I had tears streaming down my face a lot of the time.
I initially felt that the male narrator was a tad too dramatic, but as I got swept up in the story, both narrators were perfect and enhanced the story with their performances.
This is a book I can recommend with my whole heart.

A posthumous recipient of the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement, Marion Zimmer Bradley reinvented - and rejuvenated - the King Arthur mythos with her extraordinary Mists of Avalon series. In this epic work, Bradley follows the arc of the timeless tale from the perspective of its previously marginalized female characters: Celtic priestess Morgaine, Gwenhwyfar, and High Priestess Viviane.

Definitly in my Top 10 All Time Favorites
Revisado: 04-04-18
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, not only is this a very thoughtful and thought-provoking book, beautifully written, but it is narrated by the incomparable Davina Porter.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mists of Avalon?
This was not a book with stand-out moments. It didn't make me laugh or cry, but it resonated very deeply with me. I particularly loved that the story is told from the perspective of women. None of the characters were entirely good, or entirely bad. They were flawed, but pursued that which they fervently believed in with passion, even while making poor decisions and stumbling along the way.
Have you listened to any of Davina Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to her narration of the Outlander series many times and she is as accomplished in this. She truly is a master of her craft.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Given the length, it took me 5 days!

I loved this book with my whole heart. Maybe because in many ways I identifield with Eleanor Oliphant. I understood her and empathized with her. Yes, she made me cringe a little from time to time, but she was an extraordinary well-written character with an amazing journey of self-actualization. This was a triumphant debut by Gail Honeyman and I can't wait to see what she writes next.

Any additional comments?
I have never read anything by Stephenie Meyer - Twilight is definitely not my thing - so I was very hesitant to give The Host a try. It was well worth it though. Loved the characters and the story, especially the growth in certain characters. The ending satisfied me completely. I will definitely look out from other non-Twilight offerings from this author.
Kate Reading was superb, as usual.

It dragged a bit
Revisado: 05-24-17
Any additional comments?
Having worked my way through all three volumes of The Cycle of Arawn and then the first volume of The Cycle of Galand in a short period of time, I have to admit that this one was a bit of a disappointment for me. It just felt long and drawn out, and I don't relish the fact that I have to listen to another book with the same antagonist - who I found very flat and one-dimensional - to get to the end of the story. I don't seem to care that much anymore. It was still good, but I think I will wait while before tackling the next one.Dante and Blays are still great and the narration is first-rate.
