This is not really what coaching is

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 07-31-20

Sounds like there are some interesting lessons here but the conversations seem contrived, which made me lose trust. The answers seemed too neat as well. I was listening to hear some good coaching but I felt that this was staged and very "teachy" more than coaching. So there are some good lessons but I would take it more like a platform to get those lessons across more than what really happens in a coaching session (referring to coaching as per the ICF).

This book is brilliant. You will listen over and over again and get more and more from it. Good and clear narration.

What would have made The Untethered Soul better?

This book seems to be chapter after chapter of telling "you" what you do- how we cling to thoughts, how we identify ourselves, etc. It seems like "you" do this and "you" do that. I'm still waiting for any insight on what "you" can do about it. This book may be good for someone who has never had any training or read anything about spirituality or psychology. It is not for anyone who has read Tolle, or any of the other spiritual writers. It does not go beyond "The Power of Now", for example. And the narrator is almost patronizing from my point of view, in his attempt to sound interesting. It sounds more dramatic than necessary. To be honest, I am at chapter 14 and want to put it down, but I will listen to the end, and change this evaluation if I find that the ending somehow surprises me.

What could Michael A. Singer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The book could have been less narrative about what "you" do and don't do. It lacks skill giving. "You" might read it and relate to a lot of what it says, but it is lacking as compared to deeper thinkers and more insightful writers like Thich Nhat Hanh, Tolle, Krishnamurti...

What didn’t you like about Peter Berkrot’s performance?

Too dramatic. Too false. Could have been more natural.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I just wish I had known ahead of time that it was not going to contribute to what I have already learned. It was not the right book for me. Perhaps it is good, again, for someone who has never worked on their spirituality or psychology.

Any additional comments?

Will most likely return this book.
