Historia
It's 1804. Napoleon Bonaparte is emperor of France, his ultimate aim to rule Europe. After defeat at the Battle of Trafalgar, he wins a glorious victory against Austria at Austerlitz. He then deposes the Spanish king and places his own brother on the throne. But he is yet to triumph over his most hated enemy: Great Britain. Arthur Wellesley (the future Duke of Wellington) throws himself into the British campaign in Europe. After glory in Portugal, he commands the army in a series of triumphant battles across Spain.

Great read overall
Revisado: 07-07-24
Was a little slow in the middle and would have preferred more of Wellington in Portugal and less tantrums from Napolean, but understand the author was setting up the timelines for the final book. Overall very enjoyable and well researched story. Excellent narration as always from Keeble.

To get home, they must survive a merciless winter in a lawless camp deadlier than any battlefield.

pretty real historical fiction
Revisado: 03-22-24
Was a bit grim in the middle but ends right and really stays true to historical facts while filling in human details. Character development is great and you root for the heros when they make it and even when they don't.

Historia
In this vivid and compelling narrative, the Seven Years' War - long seen as a mere backdrop to the American Revolution - takes on a whole new significance. Relating the history of the war as it developed, Anderson shows how the complex array of forces brought into conflict helped both to create Britain's empire and to sow the seeds of its eventual dissolution. Beginning with a skirmish in the Pennsylvania backcountry involving an inexperienced George Washington, the Iroquois chief Tanaghrisson, and the ill-fated French emissary Jumonville, Anderson reveals a chain of events that would lead to world conflagration.

Great book, well read.

Much more than a military history, this book delves deeply into the economy, politics, and social circumstances of the colonies during and after the French and Indian War.
