Historia
On January 6, 2021, insurgents stormed the U.S. Capitol, an act of domestic terror without parallel in American history, designed to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power. In a resolution six months later, the House of Representatives called it "one of the darkest days of our democracy," and established a special committee to investigate how and why the attack happened. Celadon Books, in collaboration with The New Yorker, presents the committee's final report, the definitive account of January 6th and what led up to it.

I returned this title because the music was distracting
Revisado: 08-26-22
This is a lovely story, and the reader did a fine job, but the strange and menacing background music was so distracting and theatrically mismatched we couldn’t stand it. I wish there was a version that eliminated the musical portion of this.

Historia
The Thirteen Clocks is James Thurber's enduring story of life in a castle where time stands still on every clock at 10 minutes to five. The Duke of the castle ignores time and pays no attention to temperature either. He is a wicked Duke who has hands cold enough to choke a bull. The only warmth he understands is the warm hands of Princess Saralinda, his fair niece, whom he cherishes and protects from suitors.

I didn’t get far. It was stilted and meandering. Not a coherent through line as much as lots of literary name dropping.
Pass.

Historia
It is a chilling story that begins in the 1970s, when Trump made his first splash in the booming, money-drenched world of New York real estate, and ends with Trump’s inauguration as president of the US. That moment was the culmination of Vladimir Putin’s long mission to undermine Western democracy, a mission that he and his hand-selected group of oligarchs and Mafia kingpins had ensnared Trump in, starting more than 20 years ago with the massive bailout of a string of Trump hotel and casino failures. This book confirms the most incredible American paranoias about Russian malevolence.

A troubling catalogue of blurred lines between business, government, and organized crime
Revisado: 09-02-18
Well written and researched- certain turns of phrase are repeated in multiple chapters, but this does allow casual readers to graze chapters and still have the context to get meaning from the story.
This book is full of surprising connections within a web of criminality and government.
At the heart of this we have Government officials working with shady business men to cheat taxes and divert shared natural resources to a shadow private sector in ways that hurt little people and make for horrible foreign policy decisions.
The energy industry in the US has conducted itself in exactly this way for the last +100 years. It’s upsetting, but the Russians are essentially horning in on the US business gangster gambit.
