All about the plot

Liked many things about this book but mostly the complicated plot that remains plausible. Also nice to not have to deal with the romantic bull***t so often attached to female cops.

As good as Preston and Child

Well plotted. With enough characters but not so many - difficult to track too many characters in audible books (maybe just my problem). Preston and Child is my standard for thrillers. Weird protagonist. Complicated but not disorienting. Brutal but in context. Not quite as many hold your breath scenes as P&C. It wraps up a little too nicely but what the heck.

Martin Beck. How could I not known of this character.

Totally engrossed. No gardening got done and I have company arriving tomorrow! An intricate and charming combination of crime and relationship. Rang so true, how an investigation unfolds by focus, persistence and finally luck and intuition. Much like a relationship fails or succeeds. The performances, all but especially Steven Mackintosh, were perfect. I will surely listen again.

Not my relationship story but no matter - many aha moments. Plus the sincerity and courage of the couples is intensely moving. Surely will encourage my spouse of 48 years to listen ;)

Usually require a more complex plot but this kept me listening. Who can find fault when Jane Austin is part of the mix. Besides, I need a break from Lee Childs, etc.
