A fun sequel
Revisado: 11-28-22
Just like the first book, a great mix of daily life, romance, and drama, with a healthy dose of timely social issues. It doesn’t get too depressing though- the characters find allies all around them, and villains are put in their place. Some of the narration is a little tell-not-show, but the characters are memorable and lovable and I’m looking forward to seeing where they go next.

Historia
Charles Dickens is not feeling the Christmas spirit. His newest book is an utter flop, the critics have turned against him, relatives near and far hound him for money. While his wife plans a lavish holiday party for their ever-expanding family and circle of friends, Dickens has visions of the poor house. But when his publishers try to blackmail him into writing a Christmas book to save them all from financial ruin, he refuses. And a serious bout of writer's block sets in.

Magical!

Very good! I loved all the subtle references to the original book, and Dickens’s emotional arc into and out of cynical despair, much like Scrooge himself! A little cheesy at times, but in the best way.

Highly Enjoyable!
Revisado: 11-24-22
Found this series after devouring the Nightingales Nurses books. The characters are relatable, lovable, and distinctive. There’s not a lot of twists or hidden depths but the straightforward narrative touches on some important issues of the time without dwelling too long on tragedy. Times might get dark, but the characters’ determination and heart always wins out. Especially loved Sally’s arc with the shop owners, and the smaller details of daily life and retail work in the period. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
