Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. There’s a wealthy bank director who has been too busy to care about anyone else and a young couple who are about to have their first child but can’t seem to agree on anything.

a must!
Revisado: 06-23-22
Fredrik Backman weaves stories that make you feel. Deep, moving and whimsical - his characters are real. The narration annoyed me a bit in the beginning but once I got into the story, I didn't notice it any more. Read this book! It's a treasure.

Don't bother

I love this genre and after reading the reviews, thought I'd love it. Just found myself bored. I kept with it because you never know... the story never got quite off the ground.

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Touching, moving, funny.... not what I expected
Revisado: 08-03-16
Would you listen to A Man Called Ove again? Why?
I have never written a review before, but felt compelled to do so. This is not the type of book I would normally choose, but after reading other reviews, I decided to give it a try. I am so glad that I did. This is a story about human behavior and relationships. The author does a beautiful job of weaving a story line that is totally unpredictable and unexpected. In the beginning, I wondered what the fuss was about. As I got into the story, I began to expect Ove's responses and found myself laughing out loud. I was really moved. The performance is perfect. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Not for me
Revisado: 02-09-15
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
The 3 narrator's do a good job representing the 3 main characters. The story line itself was intreguiging, which is why I downloaded the book, but I found the characters to be very self involved and unwilling to grow. There were lots of twists and turns which kept me listening as I wanted to find out "what happens," but the plot was too sinister and left me feeling empty.
