not the best one of the series.
Revisado: 01-09-22
This one was a bit lackluster in story, and had no real ending. I didn't feel the usual concern for the characters, and it also felt scattered and all over the place.

Historia
No one knows where the Tufa came from or how they ended up in the mountains of east Tennessee. When the first Europeans came to the Smoky Mountains, the Tufa were already there. Dark-haired and enigmatic, they live quietly in the hills and valleys of Cloud County, their origins lost to history. But there are clues in their music, hidden in the songs they have passed down for generations.

entertaining read
Revisado: 06-29-21
The story is intriguing but I only gave it 4 stars because once I got pulled in, the ending felt very abrupt, and a lot of questions that arise in my mind went unanswered. I didn't feel the story went deep enough to contemplate any real themes, although there could have been real opportunity there.

Entertaining Story
Revisado: 10-27-20
This was an entertaining Story, but it's nothing new or original. It is your basic post apocalyptic zombie story, but is more of a day by day account of the characters' actions and encounters. The characters stay pretty static, and there is no underlying theme. The ending is nothing to write home about.

Just randomly ends
Revisado: 10-18-20
I was really enjoying this book. I wanted to keep hearing what happened to the characters. But it just ended suddenly, and in a way that left me feeling like one of the character's story only gets told part way.

fun listen
Revisado: 10-28-19
This was a fun short story. The only downside to the performance was that the two main female actors had very similar voices, so it got confusing at times. Just a fun short vampire story. Nothing ground breaking, and not much to think about, but I enjoyed listening.

Nothing Surprising
Revisado: 08-16-19
This book was nothing out of the ordinary. For the most part, a lot of positive thinking, positive intentions, etc. What I liked about it was the encouraging tone, and how it gave practical applications and motivation for action based on all your positive intentions. A few of the ideas that really helped me were not fearing the future, and how to let toxic people out of your life.

Historia
In the world of interconnected novels by Louise Erdrich, Four Souls is most closely linked to Tracks. All these works continue and elaborate on the intricate story of life on a reservation peopled by saints and false saints, heroes and sinners, clever fools and tenacious women. Louise Erdrich reminds us of the deep spirituality and the ordinary humanity of this world, and these works are as beautiful and lyrical as anything she has written.

More Than a Book About a Dog
Revisado: 01-10-18
I like how this book explores the balance between nature and nurture, and the effect it has on the actions of an animal (or person if you are looking at the text metaphorically). I love the idea being explored that only the nature of an individual is fixed and that even so the environment one is in and the treatment and opportunities one receives affect behavior to either live up to that nature or act contrary to it. I also enjoyed exploring the nature of relationships and the role they play in shaping behavior. I feel these are topics often tackled in literature but to varying degrees of success. I felt that exploring it through the eyes of a dog somehow made it easier to relate. The only issue I had with the book was the pacing. At times I felt like it was dragging and I had to push myself through, but then it would promptly become enthralling and I couldn't put it down.
