I didn't find the stories as creepy as I'd hoped, overall. They're presented as more matter-of-fact and research-based than spine-tingling , though the narrator certainly makes the most of what he has to work with.

Just Plain Fun!

Story is highly amusing and the narrator's performance is exceptional. This contemporary tale about a brilliant megalomaniac bent on bringing his own brand of justice to the world's elite is exceptionally entertaining and made me smirk throughout. I actually read this novel deciding to listen to the audiobook as well. Not often do I find a narrator that tells the story better than my own inner voice, but Erik Johnson is absolutely spot-on. The inflections, accents, even singing, make for pretty much the best audiobook ever.

Deadly Obsession is the story of a teenage FBI agent who plays the bait to catch criminals. It's an interesting genre blend of action and Christian fiction and I enjoyed the easy pace with which the story unfolds. I found Kennedy to be a likable and resilient protagonist, though the antagonist seemed underdeveloped. The writing is easy to read, but filled with cliches. The author showed skill in telling the story through alternating perspectives. The Christian references throughout are a nice touch, though a little heavy-handed for my taste. Overall, a story that I enjoyed listening to.

George's writing and Freathy's narration are a spot-on match in this riveting sequel. I was eager to jump back to the 1600s again and revisit the characters in this story. They are fully developed, relatable individuals capable of evolving. My favorite character is Brewster, whose moral trials cause him to undergo real change. As with its predecessor, the history is rich and well-researched. Another outstanding contribution by both George and Freathy. You won't be disappointed with this one!

What did you love best about My Father's Kingdom?

My favorite thing about this audiobook was how the rich language was brought to life by the talented narrator. The story transported me to the 1600s for 6 hours, and I was impressed with how much research was obviously put into recreating New England. The characters are fully developed and complex, and Angus did an outstanding job breathing life into them. I thought his voice was a perfect match for the story. Highly recommended listen!
