Historia
Part memoir, part history, Burn Book is a necessary chronicle of tech’s most powerful players. This is the inside story we’ve all been waiting for about modern Silicon Valley and the biggest boom in wealth creation in the history of the world. When tech titans crowed that they would “move fast and break things,” Kara Swisher was moving faster and breaking news. While covering the explosion of the digital sector in the early 1990s, she developed a long track record of digging up and reporting the facts about this new world order.

Very jaded
Revisado: 03-19-24
I was hoping to enjoy a gossipy book about tech Titans. Kara always seems to have access to them, so I thought there might be some fun anecdotes.
Unfortunately I couldn’t finish the book. It’s just so jaded and anti-tech. And there wasn’t any fun stuff to lighten the mood.
I don’t really understand how she has so much name recognition and access as a tech journalist. I genuinely think she wants her reporting subjects to fail.
If you really dislike tech this might be a book for you, but I didn’t find much of substance behind her knocks on people.

A great story

A really excellent book. It’s almost surprising that one guy’s life can have so many different brushes with history

Historia
With The Firm, financial journalist Duff McDonald pulled back the curtain on consulting giant McKinsey & Company. In The Golden Passport, he reveals the inner workings of a singular nexus of power, ambition, and influence: Harvard Business School. Harvard University occupies a unique place in the public's imagination, but HBS has arguably eclipsed its parent in terms of its influence on modern society.

Far too agenda driven for a book of this length
Revisado: 08-08-17
Any additional comments?
the author was heavily biased against HBS. While many of his criticisms were accurate, he ended up restating them over and over again. The end result is a book about 5 times as long as it needed to be. If you distilled it down by removing all the jabs and knocks about HBS it would be much better.

Introduction to Putin
Revisado: 06-18-17
Great book if you don't know much about putin and Russia currently. It's more of a summary of known information than anything else, so if you're already very knowledgeable it probably won't help that much.
The books real flaw is that it necessarily tells a lot of the same stories the kremlin tells. It pushes forward some narratives because they are the only ones out there--not necessarily because they are true.
