I have read a lot of academic work in the field of Tudor history as well as popular titles by well known authors like Starkey and Weir. What Nolan is trying to do is shake the conventional historical narrative on its head and show how history has been written by those in power to fit a certain perspective. This work does just that.
A lot of the complaints seem to stem from the narrator who is the author. I enjoyed Nolan's narration and did not find anything wrong with her sarcastic quips or repetitive statements. They were blended well with extremely well researched arguments and strong writing.
