Historia
Neighbors Gwen, Aimee, and Lisa share more than playdates and coffee mornings on their tranquil street in East Bethesda. They confide their deepest secrets, navigate the challenges of motherhood together, and provide a support system that seems unbreakable. But when Gwen's husband is found murdered after one of their weekly Friday night dinners, the peaceful quiet of their cul-de-sac shatters. The seemingly idyllic world of the three close-knit mom friends becomes a web of deception, betrayal, and revenge.

Engaging story, goofy narration
Revisado: 04-24-25
Loved the story, but eye-rolling narration. Am I the only one who thinks silly character voices are annoying? To the point it can ruin the entire book. I honestly don’t know anyone in real life, no matter how dramatic, who talks the way character Lisa does.

Historia
Liz Dawson weaves through a crowd with the ease of a tropical breeze; she’s clever, smooth, and confident—qualities that make her a brilliant serial con artist. Isabelle Beresford is strikingly beautiful, obscenely wealthy, and the new owner of Casa Esmerelda, a fabulous villa on the Mexican coast—attributes that make her the perfect mark. When she offers Liz a job handling the installation of a piece of art in her otherwise vacant home, Liz can’t resist the allure of a beach retreat. But when Liz is mistaken for Isabelle herself, Liz can’t help slipping into the socialite’s identity.

Well worth your time and money
Revisado: 04-20-25
I wouldn’t say I never saw the twist coming. You read enough of these books and you can usually figure it out at some point. But it was well written, the narrator was great. Didn’t put on silly voices for each of the characters, which I always appreciate. Fun read, intelligent writing, keeps you engaged for the duration!

Definitely worth the money
Revisado: 04-12-25
This is my first Heather Chavez novel, and I’m impressed—she wrote an intelligent story line that kept me engaged. I also appreciate Megan Turing’s narration—not overly dramatic, making it relatable and believable. Look forward to reading more from Ms. Chavez!

Long blonde hair. Sparkling dark eyes. Perfect pearly white teeth. I’ve never met her before, but I know exactly who she is as I spot her through the crowds of the terminal. Because our new guest is the spitting image of the daughter we lost. And that’s exactly why I chose her.

Same Lifetime story already told a dozen different ways
Revisado: 04-12-25
For the author: Do LA moms really say things like “dahhhling”? For the narrator: Do Californians still sound like actors from the 1940s who couldn’t decide whether they wanted to use an American or English accent? Seems like petty criticism, I know, but it’s cringy and distracting enough that it really does take away from the story’s credibility. Sorry…

Why does it always have to be political?
Revisado: 01-25-25
I’d definitely buy more books from Ms. Slaughter, but I’m over the constant insertion of her political views. Why ruin a potentially good story by alienating people that might more agree with your politics??

Loved this one, kept me going! I hate it when narrators feel the need to overact though, making characters sound downright silly and unrealistic. They should be treated as characters, not caricatures.

Historia
When Anna Hartley’s husband, Henry, calls her with a terrible, guilty confession, she can’t believe what she hears. It has to be a bad joke—the mild, predictable artist she married would never hurt a fly, let alone commit murder. But her confusion turns to horror when police find his body washed up on the banks of the Rio Grande.

Great narration, writing is…okay
Revisado: 07-24-24
Just wondering what’s up with female characters having such disgusting mouths in all these books? Does constant use of the F word make them somehow more real, gritty, and relatable? Or is that really how women carry on normal conversation these days? It detracts from the story, it’s disgusting, and it’s getting old.

I bought this without realizing who the narrator was. I’m a fan of Jeneva Rose, but Ms. Rodriguez manages to turn good stories into silly cartoons. Looking forward to more great JR books with other narrators.
