Speed up the narration
Revisado: 01-06-22
The default narration speed is too slow (1.0) if you speed it up to 1.2 it will significantly improve this book. The book being read at 1.2 seemed far more natural so natural I wonder if the publisher deliberately slowed it down.

Not For me
Revisado: 01-17-21
I like non-fiction, I also like work done by comedians. This book didn't really fit into either, for me. The author was highly recommended by a friend. Maybe I was not in the mood for this type of literature nonetheless I found myself a little bored. The story about his drug abuse was a big turn off for me. By the end of the book the author grew on me a little. I liked the stories about his parents and his time in France. It seemed like a eloquent explanation of typical unusual occurrences in life. Maybe some people have never observed interesting anomalies in life therefore this book meant more to them? I have another book of his I will probably listen to it if I need some "fluff" reading. Most likely I won't buy any more of his books. I have a feeling I will forget most of his stories in a couple weeks. The contents weren't memorable like Atlas Shrugged more like recalling a quote from a movie you saw once...

Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

One of my favorites
Revisado: 01-10-21
Now one of my favorite books. I am sure I can listen to this again and learn something new; something I missed the first time. It's like anthropology for people in a hurry. This was a simplified, eloquent approach to a dense subject.

Gather round close, for I have a secret to tell. Late at night, while everyone is sleeping, dreaming of white knights and fairytales. I'm making friends with the monsters. They call to me, like finds like, right? My biggest secret, I'm the scariest monster I know. I think I'm the bad guy.

Pleasant surprise
Revisado: 12-10-20
I bought this book on sale and thought it was going to be about something completely different. I generally don't prefer books with magical creatures but grew to be ok with them in this book. Overall I liked the book. The sexual depictions were on point and very well written; there were some excellent tips in there. The book was funny and I liked the heroine. She was cunning, intelligent, independent, witty; she really knew herself. Something I really liked about the book was an exploration of polyamory. Finally a book with some modern romance. One down fall of the book was the narrator's speech cadency in the first few chapters. She spoke a little fast to where I didn't clearly hear what she said and in the beginning she took some unusual pauses. After the first few chapters the pace smoothed out and the narration was fine.

Could not stop listening
Revisado: 11-25-20
I've seen the movie; it's one of my favorites. A friend recommended that I read the book and told me it was very different from the movie. Well I am glad I took that advice. Honestly I am glad I saw the movie first although the two items were different enough as I listened to the book I didn't feel like I knew exactly what was going to happen. I genuinely appreciated the differences. I "picked" up this book every chance I had. I am looking forward to the next one.

Historia
When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didn't have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave - "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams" - wasn't about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment (because "time is all you have... and you may find one day that you have less than you think").

Honorable although nothing new
Revisado: 11-22-20
I find it hard to write this review because I don't want to disrespect the writer and his memory. The book was eloquent and well-written. To me the life lessons didn't present anything new. I suppose I read a lot of self-improvement, spiritual books and this book didn't bring anything new to the table. For those that are new to this genre of literature this book is a great starting point. For me it is unlikely this book's message was profound enough to add it to my favorites and listen to repeatedly.

Interesting Book
Revisado: 11-22-20
I learned from this book. I was thinking it would have more of a spiritual and ritual aspect i.e. specifics on ceremonies over time throughout the world. I was expecting something more historical a deep dive into more anthropology and theology. A good book to read at least once.

Historia
Lacey Terwilliger's shock and humiliation over her husband's philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike's company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike's family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend", Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town and a media punch line....

Finally a regular, good romance novel
Revisado: 11-07-20
This was a good modern romance novel. I was relieved the plot was socially appropriate and modern. I say this because I recently listened to a different romance that basically involved an uninteresting girl pining for another woman's man. Booo. I enjoyed the humor. I gave it 4 stars because while it was a good book, I most likely won't listen to it repeatedly.

Beautiful. Willful. Charming. Blunt. Grace Coddington’s extraordinary talent and fierce dedication to her work as creative director of Vogue have made her an international icon. Known through much of her career only to those behind the scenes, she might have remained fashion’s best-kept secret were it not for The September Issue, the acclaimed 2009 documentary that turned publicity-averse Grace into a sudden, reluctant celebrity. Grace’s palpable engagement with her work brought a rare insight into the passion that produces many of the magazine’s most memorable shoots.

Fascinating Fashion Industry Book
Revisado: 10-05-20
I really enjoyed this book; I listened to it during almost every spare moment for a couple days. After completing the book I went on a rampage to find more like it. Alas, this is the only one. This book provided a first hand perspective of the fashion industry. I am sure Grace has more stories to tell. It would be wonderful if she wrote another book. After enough time has passed I am sure I will listen to this book again.
