ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!!
Revisado: 02-21-25
First off, I've listened to 1,000+ audiobooks and no one narrates better than Ari Fliakos! He can easily handle 8-10 voices and he really brings these books to life. It's more like listening to a play with multiple actors versus a standard narration of a book.
Second, this story, the characters, and especially the ending are all just perfectly done! I had no idea where the story was going, but it all made sense in the end and nothing was a "stretch" in any way. In hindsight, everything lined up well and the whole tale was very believable and, frankly, realistic.
Finally, the ulitmate compliment is that I have turned on notifications for this author and I will buy everything he publishes without even thinking about it. All 3 books in the Cain City series are wonderful and I this author startes publishing more often.

BEST BOOK IN THIS SERIES (SO FAR)!!
Revisado: 02-07-25
I own over 600 audiobooks and this is my favorite series by far. I also love The Gray Man, Reacher, Horvath, etc., but the Orphan X series is above all of those because it has the prefect mix of action, suspense, humor, and heartfelt moments. Now that Hurwitz is into Book 9 in the series, there are lots of characters (Joey, Melinda, Tommy, the HOA, his dad/brother, etc.) and the books are more complex than ever as a result. This book has a great main storyline and lots of other ones that made it a must listen and my favorite X novel to date.

Really Long
Revisado: 02-03-25
The author read the book very well, but it was just too long for my taste. Spoiler - exercise, eat well, and sleep more to live longer. The last part of the book dealing with the author’s mental struggles was very unexpected, but it dragged the book out to over 17 hours and it was tedious to finish. There’s just nothing new here other than the author (who has a really bad temper it appears) revealing his mental health journey.

Terrible!!
Revisado: 11-21-24
I’ve read many of this author’s books, but this one is terrible. A lot of plot twists like this one are just too unbelievable to make any sense at all. The holes in this plot are like Swiss cheese and I wasted many hours listening to this hastily thrown together book. Freida must have been up against a deadline and just slapped this mess together. Terrible.

Revisado: 04-09-24
I assume all of the reviews of this wonderful book will be 5 starts across the board and this is a perfect final book for an amazing career by the finest author I've ever encountered. The narrator, Ari Fliakos, is also one of the best narrators on the earth so he makes a great book even better.

Historia
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

Very Long, Kinda Preachy, but Really Good!
Revisado: 04-01-24
The narrator put on a masterclass for this 18+ hour marathon of a book. The story is pretty good if you can overlook some absolutely ridiculous plot lines right off the bat, lots of "preaching" on a variety of topics (the author picks one topic after another to preach about), and a story that is just fundamentally waaaayyyy too long given the story being told.
I never put spoilers in reviews, but the secrets between the two sisters and their extended family are just so over the top ridiculous that it borders on being silly, but the audiobook is compelling nonetheless. This is the first time I've listened to a book by this author and she's at the highest level of this industry for sure. She has lots of characters, she mixes in humor very well (just enough, but not too much since people are, you know, getting killed), and she ties everything together like a pro.
As mentioned above, the narrator is absolutely phenomenal. She handles about 8-10 characters with aplomb and I've never heard anyone better.

John Rain is back. And “the most charismatic assassin since James Bond” ( San Francisco Chronicle) is up against his most formidable enemy yet: the nexus of political, military, media, and corporate factions known only as the Oligarchy. When legendary black ops veteran Colonel Scott “Hort” Horton tracks Rain down in Tokyo, Rain can’t resist the offer: a multi-million dollar payday for the “natural causes” demise of three ultra-high-profile targets who are dangerously close to launching a coup in America. But the opposition on this job is going to be too much for even Rain to pull it off alone.

AMAZING AUTHOR/NARRATOR!
Revisado: 03-08-24
I love everything about this series! It's a unique take on the hired assassin genre with great characters and storylines. This book is the best one yet in this great series and the author is a phenomenal narrator to boot. He masters about 8-9 voices very well (men and women of all ages) and that's very impressive for an author.
Don't hesitate to use a credit to start this series or buy several of them when Audible runs their "series sales." You won't be disappointed.

Historia
In 2021 cryptocurrency went mainstream. Giant investment funds were buying it, celebrities like Tom Brady endorsed it, and TV ads hailed it as the future of money. Hardly anyone knew how it worked—but why bother with the particulars when everyone was making a fortune from Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, or some other bizarrely named “digital asset”? As he observed this frenzy, investigative reporter Zeke Faux had a nagging question: Was it all just a confidence game of epic proportions? What started as curiosity—with a dash of FOMO—would morph into a two-year globe-spanning quest.

Awesome Book In Every Aspect!
Revisado: 01-15-24
I loved every second of this book! It's written so well and the narration is perfect so it reads like a page-turning mystery novel even though I kinda knew how things ended for SBF and the FTX debacle. The author mixed in his own perspective on crypto throughout the book and that really helped to understand the whole crypto craze from a "common man's" outside view of this new aspect of our economy.
Don't hesitate to use a credit to buy this wonderful book and you'll blast through it very quickly.

PHENOMENAL!
Revisado: 09-27-23
I loved EVERYTHING about this audiobook! I listen to 1-2 books per week and this one really stood out to me (books can "run together" at times). The narrator is fantastic and a true pro at doing a bunch of different voices really well. In addition, it's hard to believe this is the debut novel for this excellent author, but he is very successful with movies and tv scripts so I guess it makes sense.
The characters, setting, and plot are all very well done and I loved every minute of it. If all books were this good, I'd probably listen to 3 books a week instead of 1-2. I cannot wait for this author's future works! Do yourself a favor and just buy this book right now.

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!
Revisado: 06-20-23
This audiobook was excellent in EVERY aspect! The narrator was very effective with subtle voice changes for all of the people (and there are a lot) in this crazy, convoluted story and the writing was just perfect as well. You literally cannot stop listening to this compelling tale and I had to force myself to avoid googling any aspect of the crimes so I would not spoil the ending. I had no prior knowledge of this whole situation and that made listening way better for me. Even if you know the story, this is still a great audiobook so you can get into the minds of the lawyers that saw this through to the end. I took a complete flyer on this book and I'm SO glad I did! I would gladly pay $50 to listen to this book so getting it for one credit was a steal.
