Great story and narration
Revisado: 10-11-24
I really enjoyed this book a lot. It’s remarkable that it’s the author’s first novel.
The narration was excellent, and I loved how character-driven the story was.

Historia
When Nina Linden is hired to landscape a private island off the New England coast, she sees it as her chance to rebuild her failing business after being cheated by her unscrupulous ex. She never expects that her new client, software mogul Deacon Whitney, would see more in her than just a talented gardener. Deacon has paid top dollar to the crews he’s hired to renovate the desolate Whitney estate - he had to, because the bumps, thumps, and unexplained sightings of ghostly figures in 19th-century dress are driving workers away faster than he can say “Boo.”

The Grand Hotel is a horror novel by esteemed best-selling author Scott Kenemore ( Zombie, Ohio) that takes the reader on a thrilling ride through an interconnected series of stories narrated by the desk clerk and the residents of the hotel itself. And while it is not known whether or not the desk clerk is actually the devil incarnate, it is strange that so many visitors who come for a tour of the hotel have a way of never leaving.

A bit too documentary-like
Revisado: 06-11-18
It was an interesting world and scenarios presented, but I didn't feel invested in the characters and didn't really care what happened to them. The narration lacked emotion, I'm not sure if that was this narrator or the nature of the book.
I found the nature of evolution in this book very confusing; not sure when a character was the same or a later generation with the same name.

Annoying antagonist
Revisado: 12-01-17
The story had potential, and I liked the supporting characters for the protagonist, but I found the antagonist to be unconvincing. He was full of mixed metaphors and generally inconsistent; since the book spends a lot of time with him, it was quite annoying.

A tense, gripping psychological thriller, with Hitchcockian overtones, perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, Sophie Hannah and Rosamund Lupton. Lara Finch is living a lie. Everyone thinks she has a happy life in Cornwall, married to the devoted Sam, but in fact she is desperately bored. When she is offered a new job that involves commuting to London by sleeper train, she meets Guy and starts an illicit affair. But then Lara vanishes from the night train without a trace.

Better than Girl on a Train
Revisado: 04-14-17
The mystery and setting of the book is similar to Girl on a Train, but I enjoyed this book much more, not in the least because there's many more likeable characters in The Sleeper.
The narration is good. Do recommend.

Pretty standard
Revisado: 05-13-16
It's a classic zombie tale, but otherwise nothing special.
I didn't care that much about the characters or their fate, and overall their behaviour and attitudes seemed a bit weird without any explanation.
There was also little to no history of the crisis, characters, or a plan for the future, which made me feel uninvested in the story.
Narration was pretty good.
