Historia
In this must-listen book for anyone striving to succeed, pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth shows parents, educators, students, and businesspeople - both seasoned and new - that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a focused persistence called "grit". Why do some people succeed and others fail? Sharing new insights from her landmark research on grit, MacArthur "genius" Angela Duckworth explains why talent is hardly a guarantor of success.

London, 1925: In a world of townhomes and tennis matches, socialites and shooting parties, Miss Nan O’Dea became Archie Christie’s mistress, luring him away from his devoted and well-known wife, Agatha Christie. The question is, why? Why destroy another woman’s marriage, why hatch a plot years in the making, and why murder? How was Nan O’Dea so intricately tied to those 11 mysterious days that Agatha Christie went missing?

gripping
Revisado: 05-27-23
I enjoyed this book so much, especially after I discovered it was based on a real person. The twisty turny surprises were fun and made the separateness of the missing Christie, the death of the Marstens, and Nan's Sister Mary backstory tie together so nicely. I loved the steady flow and voice alterations of the narrator.

terrible
Revisado: 04-22-23
This book was highly recommended by Candace Cameron Bure. I thought it was going to be amazing because she said it was and I like when Candace posts about food. I had a general expectation that this would be about food. I did not expect it to be a really badly written sermon about how a bunch of our sins are food related. Also the donut on the cover looks delicious.
Thoughts while listening:
It feels like I'm listening to someone who doesn't know what their opinion is but is trying to convince you she does. ...I think this but I'm not saying this because of that but not that per se...
"Try to pray at the same time every day." The Bible says pray continually. God wants a relationship, not a scheduled meeting.
"Eating sinfully." "Your eating is sinful." Bro.
This book is more like criticism rather than anything helpful. It consistently talks about eating disorders as if they're nothing. The whole tone around eating being shameful because you can be doing "something better" with your time - like reading the Bible so others can see holiness through you just feels so gross.
Zero stars. Terrible book. I'll continue to be grateful for and enjoy my food thanks.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Gripping
Revisado: 02-03-23
Dr. Grace wakes up on a spaceship next to his two deceased crew mates. He can't remember who they are, who he is, or why he's there. As he explores the ship and his memories start to slowly return, he remembers he's on an Earth saving suicide mission. He's also not alone.
This is such a well written book. I loved the character development of Dr. Grace and the bond between Rocky and himself. The memories were perfectly placed, and I was so surprised when I got to the memory of how Dr. Grace made the decision to go. Great book, fantastic ending. All the stars 🌟

Evanna Lynch’s casting as Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films is a tale that grew to almost mythic proportions - a legend of how she faced disordered eating as a young girl, found solace in a beloved book series, and later landed the part of her favorite character. But that is not the whole story.

Evanna did a wonderful job writing and narrating her book. She approached a vulnerable topic with honesty and grace. I loved gaining a better understanding of her as a person. Hearing it all in her beautiful voice was so nice as well.

I love the audio version of this! I had already read the book, and it was wonderful getting into the story again. The characters are amazing, the worlds are well thought out and so realistic. The narrator brought a great energy to this work. The intensity is perfect and the voice changes are awesome, but my favorite detail is the laughter!

For the first 18 years of her life, Rose Gold Watts believed she was seriously ill. She was allergic to everything, used a wheelchair and practically lived at the hospital. Neighbors did all they could, holding fundraisers and offering shoulders to cry on, but no matter how many doctors, tests, or surgeries, no one could figure out what was wrong with Rose Gold. Turns out her mom, Patty Watts, was just a really good liar. After serving five years in prison, Patty gets out with nowhere to go and begs her daughter to take her in. The entire community is shocked when Rose Gold says yes.

Revisado: 09-28-20
This book gripped me from the beginning. I bought it on recommendation without even reading the overview. Once I began listening and it sounded familiar, I looked it up to see it is based on the true story of Gypsy Rose. Parts of it were hard to listen to, especially as a parent, but it was one that made me want to keep listening to know how it would all end.
