Historia
"There was one thing she knew. This would not be the end. She would not give up, not ever. Nico might have the victory now, but she would find a way to turn the tables on him. Holding her head high, she vowed that somehow, someday, Rosie would be with her again". Elizabeth Bennett arrives in Haven Valley, seeking healing after her emotionally abusive, unscrupulous ex-husband uses his family’s political influence to gain sole custody of their daughter, solely on the basis that Elizabeth is blind.

This is such a delightful and whimsical story and performance! I saw the Nutcracker for the first time during the pandemic when it was performed at virtually. I was thrilled to find this peron Audible, and will no doubt listen many more times during this Christmas season and for many years to come.

An Easy Light Read
Revisado: 11-22-22
The headline says it all. This is a nice easy read. Predictable and with little conflict. The reader has a pleasant voice but is a bit of a slow reader. I'll probably get the other two books in the series just to see what happens to this family.

The true story of two-year-old Anna, abandoned by her natural parents, left alone in a neglected orphanage. Elaine and Ian had travelled halfway round the world to adopt little Anna. She couldn't have been more wanted, loved and cherished. So why was she now in foster care and living with me? It didn't make sense.

This was another great read! The narration was excellent as always, & the story was engrossing. It's the story of one family's experience with international adoption. Heartbreaking at times, but the end is truly amazing! I can't wait for the next book.

Historia
Brooklyn, 1947: In the midst of a blizzard, in a two-family brownstone, two babies are born minutes apart to two women. They are sisters by marriage, with an impenetrable bond forged before and during that dramatic night; but as the years progress, small cracks start to appear, and their once deep friendship begins to unravel. No one knows why, and no one can stop it. One misguided choice; one moment of tragedy. Heartbreak wars with happiness and almost but not quite wins.

Excellent and very timely
Revisado: 09-08-17
Another excellent book by Cathy Glass!
It's a very well-written and timely story about a little boy who is morbidly obese and his family. Max comes to live with Cathy and her family when his mother is hospitalized with complications from type II diabetes. Cathy's fostering of Max gets off to a bad start when she receives a threatening phone call from Max's mother before his arrival. No one mentions Max's obesity, and Cathy and her family are understandably shocked when they meet Max for the first time. The social worker refuses to acknowlege it, and when Cathy proposes small changes, she's told to leave things as they are. It's not until he has a medical appointment as part of the precess of coming into care, that Cathy is given the go ahead to help Max to begin to lose weight and thus live a more normal life- something he wants for himself.
As the story progresses, the rest of the family gradually warms to Cathy and accepts what she's doing for Max. His three sisters, who also struggle with obesity, also try the program Max is using.
As the book goes on, we learn about Max's mother's terrible childhood and come to understand why she's the way she is -- angry, distant, and we learn why she withholds affection from her children. I found myself liking her and Max's three sisters and cheering them on.
As with many of the books Cathy Glass has written, this one will stay with me for a long time. Sadly, childhood obesity has reached epidemic proportions here in the U.S. as well. Thank you for sharing Max's story with us, ands always telling it so well.

Another gripping story
Revisado: 07-29-17
This is a sad but gripping story about a little girl who is sold to a circus by her cruel vicious mother and the life she lead there. Nine-year-old Lily is taken from her attic room where she has been held prissoner by her parents and sold to the circus because she's a "monstor" according to her mother. Lily was born with albinism in the 1920s. In the circus, she's put in the "freak" show as one of the star attractions. She suffers horrible abuse but has great strength of character and survives in spite of it all. She befriends Pepper, an elephant and her handler Cole, whom she later marries. Lily performs with Pepper in the big top until tragedy occurrs, and she's forced out of the circus life she's come to love.
This is also the story of Julia Blackwood, who runs away from the manor on the day her father dies. Living a hard life on the streets, she's tracked down by a private investigator hired by her mother's attorney. She's given a letter informing her of her mother's death, and Julia is the new owner of Blackwood Manor. On her return, she discovers her father's old journal where she reads about the sister she never knew she had. Eventually Julia learns the truth and that things are not always as they seem. The story of her past is not what she believes it to be. She must come to grips with this and create a new life for herself where she will find love and acceptance. This is a story that will stay with you long after the last page is turned.
