When I started listening to When the Words are Spoken, I was immediately rooting for the romantic leads, Sheridan and Michael. Michael, a professor of literature, is a bit grumpy at times and in many ways clueless. Sheridan, a beautiful former student and current colleague of his has to essentially spell out her love for him with BIG CAPITAL LETTERS. It's actually pretty sweet. Michael just can't fathom Sheridan being interested in him. Why does Michael feel so undeserving...? I don't want to give anything away, so I'll just say that both Sheridan and Michael have had trauma in the past and they help each other recover and move on. This is as much a story about healing and trust as it is about love. The narrator does an excellent job of telling their story and honoring the emotions of the characters even during some very intense scenes. This is a book I highly recommend listening to on audiobook!
