Historia
Best-selling author Mary Roach returns with a new adventure to the invisible realm we carry around inside. Roach takes us down the hatch on an unforgettable tour. The alimentary canal is classic Mary Roach terrain: The questions explored in Gulp are as taboo, in their way, as the cadavers in Stiff and every bit as surreal as the universe of zero gravity explored in Packing for Mars. Why is crunchy food so appealing? Why is it so hard to find words for flavors and smells? Why doesn’t the stomach digest itself? How much can you eat before your stomach bursts?

Joyful gross
Revisado: 01-02-25
Mary Roach’s approach to her subjects is always one of light hearted depth. The research and interviews are personable and understandable on a topic that, if you are actually reading the book, you will find enthralling. If even a glimmer of curiosity about the tube we are wrapped around interests you, this is the book to help you take that next bite of knowledge flavored liberally with humor.

Historia
Absalom Scryne isn't himself. On the one hand, he's a well-rounded gentleman of a sentient hat with two beloved apprentices and a tagalong swordsman. On the other, he's a rather furious wizard sitting on the opposite side of a desk, demanding they give back his hat. Needless to say, it's not an ideal situation. And it's about to get worse. Because the battle between civilization and all the monsters of the Badlands and the underworld is about to begin.

Spells and counter spells and counter-counter spells
Revisado: 10-29-24
A fun conclusion to a ridiculous romp of a Lit RPG. Character growth and the strains of interacting as a changed person. The delight of the expectedly unexpected! And the visuals of a being who can reshape reality really getting to cut loose!! And the icing on top is John Lee’s wonderful and engaging reading. Top marks.

Historia
A quest, a war, a ring that would be grounds for calling any wedding off, a king without a kingdom, and a furry little "hero" named Frito, ready - or maybe just forced by the wizard Goodgulf - to undertake the one mission that can save Lower Middle Earth from enslavement by the evil Sorhed. Luscious Elf-maidens, a roller-skating dragon, ugly plants that can soul kiss the unwary to death-these are just some of the ingredients in the wildest, wackiest, most irreverent excursion into fantasy realms that anyone has ever dared to undertake.

Abridged and a brilliant story
Revisado: 06-17-24
Absolutely top shelf (the one with the plastic potted plants they hide the heavy duty cleaners behind). The reader only adding to the joy, whimsy and debauched pleasure of the writer’s fevered mind. To all readers, and particularly those who found the original long form of the tale to be needlessly filled with filler, settle in and savor this satire.

Historia
Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going as planned. Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk—so far from the action that she worries she'll never be able to return to it. What's a thwarted soldier of fortune to do? Spending her hours at a beleaguered bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor is the last thing Viv would have predicted, but it may be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine.

Revisado: 12-24-23
As a follow to the first you can expect the joy of overcoming challenges while causing a few more. But, as is becoming a habit for Mr Baldree, you can’t expect the ‘how’ it’s dealt with. Warm, growing, and something that can keep you up at night for all the right reasons.

Historia
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

Fantasy and friendships
Revisado: 12-20-23
Mr Baldree has done something extraordinary. Providing all the feel of violent challenges one could want or expect from a high fantasy novel and made it not about discovering what lurks around the next dungeon corner, but what it takes to turn over a new leaf. Be prepared to laugh, be frustrated, swear, and ultimately come out okay alongside memorable and interesting characters in this wonderful story.

The story carries well
Revisado: 09-22-23
The story itself develops well and the interweaving is fun to follow. Would be considered a low fantasy (magic wise) with a high fantasy feel and just enough historical accuracy, in the plot formation and intrigue design, to keep everyone entertained.

Wonderful characters with hiccups
Revisado: 07-19-23
The characters are wonderful and varied, with motivations and plans that are played out well. Some of the McGuffins though are well laid out before their introduction into the story and so come across as a plot hole filler. But overall a delightful fantasy tale of dragons and people and their objects of devotion!

Historia
What is so important about the year 1215? There are some history buffs who may be able to tell you that 1215 is the year the Magna Carta was signed, but there are even fewer who know that King John of England’s acceptance of this charter was only one of four major, world-changing events of this significant year. In fact, the social, cultural, political, geographical, and religious shifts that occurred in this year alone had such a huge impact on the entire world, it warrants an entire course of study for anyone truly interested in the pivotal points of history....

A great course instructed by a great educator
Revisado: 02-25-23
There is little I can add to the body of recommendations about the great courses in general, and Years that changed history: 1215, that hasn’t already been said. Dr Armstrong is insightful, engaging and knowledgeable on any of the great courses’ works she has lent her voice to, and I can only recommend more that you try as many of them as possible.
