the christmas carol version included is fair, but not the best. i'd listen to it again. as for the other stories one or two are worth listening to again, though i did not enjoy the other main novella included "the haunted man". i kept tuning it out. it just didn't keep my attention.

one of the best versions of the best book

i loved this narration of a christmas carol. voices, timing, inflection all top notch. i do wish there was more family history and personal reflection by the narrator as that was a major reason i downloaded this title. while he does offer some intetesting information, i admit i wanted even more. even without the added bonus at the end this audiobook version is a superior one and i will deffinetly listen to it again

good version of the novella. the narrators voice is pleasant and his timing and intonation are spot on. he does voices for many characters and although i am very judgemental when narrators do "voices", his are among the best i've heard for this story. i'll listen to this one again

Close to almost perfect

Very good version of a Christmas Carol. Narrator's voice is engaging and he uses good inflection etc. only 2 things detract from the story.
1. there are longish pauses between segments that are just a tad too long. its annoying.
2. the narrator does "voices" for the female characters and when he switches to the distinctly different "female" voice it is pretty jarring. after a few sentances you get used to it and can nearly think it is normal as his voice does sound significantly different, but until then it just sounds oddly unnatural.

first, there is a decided laziness or just complete lack of editing as the narrator stumbles on his words several times and instead of going back and cutting then repeating those mistakes they were left in.
second, i am not a fan of the voices he uses for some of the charactets. just a bit too much, though his voices aren't the worst by any means.

in short, this is one of the few versions that, although not offensive to my ears, i actually walked away from while it was playing and didn't feel the impulse to rewind it. i didn't listen all the way through and i don't plan to listen to it again.

solidly good performance of a christmas classic

not the best performance, but a very solid one. this narrator is one you can have in the background and be content. he doesn't do annoying screeching or contrived voices which is a plus. but his performance has nothing really stellar that makes it stand out. it is one i will add to my list of christmas carols, but not one of my favorites.

while i do prefer the movie (one of the very rare times that can be said) this audio version is a good substitute when you want a christmas story fix and can't sit down to watch.

ok but i wish he didn't do voices

just like with the Tim Curry performance of a Christmas Carol, Sir Patrick Stewart resorts to voices in his narration for children and women. his voices for them are even more high pitched and grating. i don't think i will listen to it again bc of the overdone voices for some of the characters
