Poorly Translated.
Revisado: 05-02-25
It appears that English is not a first language for the author, and I usually have a lot of patience for translations (I speak 3 languages apart from English, and none of them very well at all), but I found this one quite difficult to get through.

Well worth a listen.
Revisado: 04-27-25
I've really enjoyed the series so far, and definitely recommend it.
The protagonist has some definite advantages over his peers, but is not over-powered the way so many are.
Interesting and well thought out.
the narrator does a good job. The 4/5 is because 1) voices are not always distinct enough keep straight who said what in some conversations, and 2) he mispronounces certain words repeatedly (eg. "noch" and "gunwhales," both of which he pronounces the way they are spelled rather than as 'knock' and 'gunnels')

Historia
When the cultivators came to Earth, they destroyed our entire civilization in a matter of hours. Armies fell, cities burned, and that was before the moon turned red and filled our world with monsters. Now, over a decade later, what's left of humanity slaves under the heels of our Qi-infused masters. The luckiest of us might even become one of them, they say—if we serve the Dynasty well enough and harness the power of Qi. But I want none of that. I'm sick of serving, and I want nothing to do with their world. Instead, I want them to pay for what they did to mine.

Good Story; Often Painful Narration
Revisado: 04-14-24
The story is well written and interesting, with unexpected twists. Unfortunately, the narrator, while he has a good voice for thr main character, it is excruciating listening to thr voices he has created for virtually all other characters, especially female characters. They all sound like drunks with broken jaws.

Clyde Hatchett, Glaton's prodigal son, is finally home. Sure, he's got a whole new body and face, so nobody recognizes him. And technically he's not from Glaton—he's really only spent a few months there. But they say home is wherever your love resides, and since Nadya lives in Glaton . . . wait, does Clyde actually love Nadya? This is getting complicated. That, on top of all the problems Clyde left behind, which haven't gotten any less knotty while he was gone. The Senate is heating up, with numerous noble idiots vying for the throne.

Historia
Seth Andersen, a UX designer, was driving home from a bad day at work when his world changed, literally. Seth is instantly transferred to the world of Morgenheim, where knights in shining armor and magic are normal, and citizens must actually “level up” to get stronger. Seth is given the chance to choose a boon from a list of incredible super powers, but accidentally chooses seemingly the most useless power in the list.

A Decent Idea, But Painful Execution
Revisado: 10-27-23
I don't know why I had moderately high hopes for this book. Sadly, the best I can say is that it is no worse than the rest of the chaff that makes up 80% of this genre.
The idea and plot are solid, and the problems are nothing a decent editor and different narrator couldn't fix. The dialog is often contrived, and the characters are inconsistent at times. The worst irritant was the narrator constantly mispronuncing words and/or placing the emphasis on the wrong syllable. It is as though he has read a great deal but seldom heard the english language spoken outside of the most basic colloquial situations.
I am uncertain whether it was the writer's mistake or the narrator's, but when I heard "all of the sudden," I nearly choked on my orange juice. Although, I should not have been surprised. The book is like that all the way through, and that one was towards the end.
If you are reading this and do not know what is wrong with that phrase (it should be "all of a sudden"), that is, perhaps, understandable. But if you are an author, your vocabulary and grammatical skills in your language of choice should at least be to a semi-professional standard. poor grammar is fine in dialog if it is in keeping with the character of the speaker and situation, but outside of that, it shouldn't read like a C- creative writing assignment for a 10th grade student (perhaps that is a bit hyperbolic, maybe 12th grade).
If you are going to sell this for public consumption, please use a professional editor... and get a better narrator.

Painful to Listen to
Revisado: 10-09-22
I have given the story 3 stars because I presume that it was written in another language and this translation is just not doing it justice.
the narrator is flat and their pronunciation of what appear to be Chinese words and names is poor.
the translation was clearly done by someone for whom English is a second language and for that reason I would like to cut them a little slack, but I just cannot continue to listen any longer.

For nearly all of my life, I trained to become a master assassin, but at the height of my career, it all fell apart. I was betrayed, ambushed, and left bleeding out on the streets of London. Just before my death, though, I was offered a choice: Stay and let my life come to a swift and brutal end, or become the personal assassin of a god in another world. It wasn't a hard decision. But this new world isn’t like the one I left.

Not without some merit, but mostly painful.
Revisado: 06-27-22
If the author is right out of (or still in) highschool, then this is an impressive work, otherwise...
I give the author props for correct use of "haggle" when so many would have incorrectly used "barter" and the idea of thr protagonist transported to a new world from 18th century London, rather than a modern-day gamer or similar, is different. Unfortunately, thT is where thr positives end.
Generally, the author's use if the English language is very poor. in particular, they seem to be trying to write characters whose grasp of the language is greater then the author's own. The result is that just as the reader is getting into the flow of the dialog (if they ever do) they are ripped away from it by jarringly incongruous vocabulary choices and grammatical mistakes.
The narrator does a decent job of the accent, but the aforesaid language issues leave it like putting lipstick on a pig, as do some equally jarring mispronunciations such as "anathema" (which is also misused).
Sorry.

When entering the second realm they came to understand their character sheets, and part of the system that is called the ten realms. A place that the strong make the rules and the weak cling to them for protection and hope that they might be left in peace. They passed through the trials of the Beast Mountain Dungeon, taking control of it and becoming the leader of nearly 200 people.

Someone get that author an editor and a thesaurus
Revisado: 04-01-22
Abysmal.
Listening to the first in the series, the story was creative and interesting and, while the use of language was poor (characters using vernacular jarringly inconsistent with their background and use so far, laborious overuse of some words and entirely incorrect use of others, etc) it was narrated by Neil Hellegers, who does an excellent job, so it was tolerable; I simply treated it as though the author was ESL .
Book 2 is narrated by someone else whose oration skills are on par with the author's capacity with the English language and the plot has gone from somewhat interesting to tortured. I am honestly not able to finish it. Sorry.
