Historia
In the 18th century, when Europeans first came upon the giant mounds and earthworks dotting the North American landscape, they couldn't imagine that the Native Americans they came into contact with were capable of producing such advanced technology and masterful engineering. In fact, when President George Washington sent Rufus Putnam to survey land in southeastern Ohio, Putnam reported that he'd discovered an impressive walled earthwork complex, which was obviously the work of some long-forgotten ancient civilization.

The writing couldn't be more robotic and the narrator couldn't sound less interested in what he was reading

Historia
Drawing on their own cross cultural experience in global mission, O'Brien and Richards show how better self-awareness and understanding of cultural differences in language, time, and social mores allow us to see the Bible in fresh and unexpected ways. Getting beyond our own cultural assumptions is increasingly important for being Christians in our interconnected and globalized world. Learn to read Scripture as a member of the global body of Christ.

All my fellow Mormons should read this book!
Revisado: 09-07-16
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I am all too aware of our tendency as a group to become too insular in our reading of scripture. Because we believe in modern day prophets, we tend toward laziness, thinking God will reveal everything to us on a silver platter without any real effort on our part, and without needing to seek gospel light anywhere outside our religious community. We forget that revelation comes through asking sincere questions, and one of the great hindrances to question-asking is cultural blinders--i.e., we mistake "truisms" for revelation. This book was so eye-opening and relevant! Every Christian needs to read this book; every student of the bible needs to read this book; anyone seeking to understand religion better needs to read this book. The audio book version is great, too. The narrator did a killer job.
