Historia
April 12, 1945: After years of bloody conflict in Europe and the Pacific, America is stunned by news of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s death. In an instant, Vice President Harry Truman, who has been kept out of war planning and knows nothing of the top-secret Manhattan Project to develop the world’s first atomic bomb, must assume command of a nation at war on multiple continents—and confront one of the most consequential decisions in history. Countdown 1945 tells the gripping true story of the turbulent days, weeks, and months to follow.

Fascinating account of history
Revisado: 11-30-22
One of the most well-know but barely understood events of the past century. Countdown 1945 is an amazing detailed account of the Manhattan Project and the decisions leading up to using the atomic bomb to end WW II. The inside stories of those involved and the climate of the time is so well captured and presented. I have a new appreciation for Harry Truman and the scientists involved in this history changing period.

Another great book of Storytelling! Wonderful plot, descriptions and rich characters. Performances were excellent and greatly helped in understanding the dual narrative of an audiobook. I can’t wait to read my next book by her!

Historia
A 60 Minutes correspondent and former anchor of the CBS Evening News, Scott Pelley writes as a witness to events that changed our world. In moving, detailed prose, he stands with firefighters at the collapsing World Trade Center on 9/11, advances with American troops in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq, and reveals private moments with presidents (and would-be presidents) he’s known for decades. Pelley also offers a resounding defense of free speech and a free press as the rights that guarantee all others.

Timely, relevant and thought provoking for our time!
Revisado: 02-06-20
Scott Pelley’s finely researched book of the meaning behind the major stories of our lives is totally engrossing. Although completely non-fiction it reads almost like a great novel! The terms “you can’t make this stuff up” and “truth is stranger than fiction” completely apply to the stories he covers and the relevance of each of these in history.
The chapter and details of President Clinton’s impeachment are so eerily parallel to Trumps Impeachment which just ended.
Pelley’s own voice which is so familiar to all of us makes this audio book exceptional. I learned so much from this book and completely enjoyed it!

Historia
A body always tells a story - but this child’s was a blank page. Rita reached for the lantern. She trained its light on the child’s face. "Who are you?" she murmured, but the face said as little as the rest of her. It was impossible to tell whether, in life, these blunt and unfinished features had borne the imprint of prettiness, timid watchfulness, or sly mischief. If there had once been curiosity or placidity or impatience here, life had not had time to etch it into permanence. Only a very short time ago, the body and soul of this little girl had still been securely attached.

Revisado: 01-15-20
I felt like the author and narrator were telling me an incredible story. This book was so enjoyable to listen to and Juliet Stevenson’s amazing narration made you feel as if each character was speaking. One of the best audible books I have listened to. Highly recommended!

Historia
On a hot summer night, a scientist from the Centers for Disease Control is grabbed by unknown assailants in a shopping center parking lot. Vanished into thin air, the authorities are desperate to save the doctor. One month later, the serenity of a sunny Sunday afternoon is shattered by the boom of a ground-shaking blast - followed by another seconds later. One of Atlanta's busiest and most important neighborhoods - the location of Emory University, two major hospitals, the FBI headquarters, and the CDC - has been bombed.

My first listen by this author and performer and won’t be my last
Revisado: 10-15-19
I can’t believe I’ve never read any Karin Slaughter books before. I love this genre and had never been introduced to this author. The story was very topical to today’s national political narrative and was a compelling listen throughout. The characters were very real, well developed and believable. The story was gripping and although not for the faint of heart was emotional and heart wrenching.
I’m glad to see that Slaughter is such a prolific author and I will have lots of books to choose from in the future.
The narration was top notch by Kathleen Early making the audio book easy to follow the many characters and capturing the emotions extremely well. Would definitely look for more books read by her in the future!

Historia
Hen and her husband, Lloyd, have settled into a quiet life in a new house outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Hen (short for Henrietta) is an illustrator and works out of a studio nearby and has found the right meds to control her bipolar disorder. Finally, she’s found some stability and peace. But when they meet the neighbors next door, that calm begins to erode as she spots a familiar object displayed on the husband’s office shelf. The sports trophy looks exactly like one that went missing from the home of a young man who was killed two years ago.

Tense and gripping but....
Revisado: 04-25-19
I was expecting more surprises and twists. The story was well constructed and well told but became somewhat unbelievable at times. I think I’m over this genre of psychotic murderers ie. You, Hidden Bodies etc getting away with murders with law enforcement clueless!

Enjoyed this well written book
Revisado: 03-26-19
I bought this book, unsure of what to expect. I thought it had potential and I wasn’t disappointed. The writing style was witty and insightful. The characters portrayed were relatable to many people we encounter in life. The tales of “property” were well tied together and formed a cohesive narrative. My only complaint was that the chapter separations of the novella were confusing and not announced. The narration by the author was spot on but her different voices for characters was sometimes confusing. I enjoyed this audible book and would read or listen to this author again.

An important lesson for all of us in a digital world
Revisado: 02-07-19
Not at all what I expected. A thoughtful “history” of the dangerous side of hacking from the perspective of those “white hats” hired to look for weaknesses in data security. It reveals how vulnerable we all are and how the black hats can take advantage of our gullibility and casualness to steal our data, identity and security. The story is told from the POV of a fascinating character, “Alien” an MIT student who got thrills in college breaking and entering into physical locations.
My first audio book and I really enjoyed it. Can’t wait to start my next audible book.
