Historia
For the first time we discover what really happened between his sister and the dastardly Wickham. How did he distract his friend Bingley from pining for his beloved Jane? Why did he propose to another young woman? Only to his diary does he tell his true story. At last we see Darcy as he really is; and, beneath his polite facade, we find a sensitive, private and passionate man.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Only if they like reading diary formats.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would have written it in a narrative text format rather than a diary. I felt because it was a diary it was was lacking details with some entries or missing the heart of events.
Have you listened to any of David Rintoul’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I haven't but what can I say about Mr Darcy himself. I could just picture him as Mr Darcy reading this 30 years after it was written. If you loved David's portrayal of Mr Darcy in BBC's 1980 production of Pride and Prejudice you will love listening to him read this. Even though there is more maturity in is voice than when he portrayed Mr Darcy he reads it with the same intonation and feeling as he did in 1980.
I wonder what he was thinking when he read some of the diary entries, probably there's no way Mr Darcy would have done that or would it have been wow, more of the true side to Mr Darcy.

Historia
P.D. James masterfully recreates the world of Pride and Prejudice, and combines it with the excitement and suspense of a brilliantly-crafted crime story. The year is 1803, and Darcy and Elizabeth have been married for six years. There are now two handsome and healthy sons in the nursery, Elizabeth’s beloved sister, Jane, and her husband, Bingley, live nearby, and the orderly world of Pemberley seems unassailable. But all this is threatened.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes, however, I felt for someone who is very familiar with Jane Austen's work there was too much recapping of the characters and the events of Pride and Prejudice. It wasn't the mystery that I had foreseen when first reading the title and the summary so I was disappointed when the book's main complication was revealed. The more I listened to the book the more I enjoyed it.
Would you be willing to try another book from P. D. James? Why or why not?
Yes.
What three words best describe Sheila Mitchell’s performance?
Well read. I listened to part of this text on a faster setting, still being able comprehend the reader. So if you want to finish the book quicker it is an option.

Historia
A pun-filled tale featuring Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice characters with some added or addled, missing or missish, modified or mortified, healthier, wealthier, or wiser. Impeccable comportment is mandatory in Regency England, a society governed by strict rules of conduct. The immaculate image of perfectionist Fitzwilliam Darcy is somewhat tarnished when he and his traveling companions arrive, hot and sweaty, at Pemberley and decide to take a fateful plunge into a scummy pond. An embarrassing encounter on the estate's lawn leaves a long-lasting impression on Jane and Elizabeth Bennet....

Humourous and pun filled Mr Darcy Takes the Plunge

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Humourous and light hearted. An easy listen.
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoyed the humour in this novel. However, sometimes I was overwelmed with puns. I loved that the plot was entirely new and did not begin part way through Austen's original story. The addition of characters and the change in ages of several of Austen's characters worked in well. I particularly liked Robert Bennet. I could still feel and imagine Jane Austen's original characters in this story even though Mrs Bennet was unlike Austen's and that the Bennet's were more affluent.
Have you listened to any of Mary F. Dominiak’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't listened to Mary F Dominiak's performances prior to listening to Mr Darcy takes the Plunge. I really enjoyed her narration. I felt she portrayed the characters well, especially the younger ones.

If you love Austen's characters this is not foryou

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
There are mixed reviews on this book and my review is far from a 5 star. I have read other 'Pride and Prejudice' variations and this is the one I have liked the least.
I really enjoyed the beginning of the book, however, as the plot began to untangle I liked it less and less as a 'Pride and Predjudice' variation. I believe I would have liked it more if It wasn't a 'Pride and Prejudice' variation and Abigail Renyolds had changed the character names and not promoted it as so.
I switched between reading it to listening to it on audio to help finish the story.
Many of the characters were so out of character from Jane Austen's timeless classic. It was hard to imagine the characters I have come to know and love in this story, in particular Mr Bennett. I did not like the end of the story.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
I did not mind the Narration, however, I only listened to part of the story and read the rest.
