Historia
War and Peace is at once an epic war chronicle and an exploration of everything that make us all human: love and hate, ambition and despair, life and death. Allow yourself to get lost in the lives of three Russian aristocratic families, whose triumphs and challenges are every bit as resonant to today’s listener as they were to original readers. Thandiwe Newton inhabits each character with such flair that it is easy to forget that you are listening to one voice.

Historia
In 1 Samuel we continue our narrative. Samuel is the last of the judges, and with his end approaching the people demand a king “so we can be like all the other nations.” As God tells Samuel, “it is not you they have rejected, they have rejected me as their king.” And indeed they have. The people choose a king, Saul of the tribe of Benjamin. Saul will rule Israel for an entire generation, but although he looks like a king, he does not have the heart of a king, and the weight of kingship crushes him.

Historia
The story of David continues in 2 Samuel. With the death of Saul and his three sons at Mt. Gilboa, the door opens for David to become king. But David has, in fact, no legitimate claim to the kingship; indeed, he has been working for a decade as a mercenary for Israel’s Philistine enemies. Listen as Dr. Bill Creasy follows David from the triumph of his kingship to his colossal fall and ultimate reconciliation with God.

Historia
At once profoundly personal and far-reaching, Exit Interview with My Grandmother serves as a meditation on the beginning of a young woman’s life and the series of questions that arise from examining love, loss, family, memory, and death. Moving between cities and centuries, Meyersohn probes her family's Jewish history and her grandparents' relationships in part to decipher her own young queer relationships, but also to examine how we ought to behave in the face of a world riddled with uncertainty and doubt.

Less about grandma and more about nothing
Revisado: 05-04-20
I thought this would be an interesting story about a much loved grandmother and her life and insights. instead, it's the ramblings of a young twenty something with a lack of direction and a lack of maturity for her age with a few minutes of recordings from her grandmother. I was hoping that perhaps there would be some insight that would help the author gain traction in her life, but the wheels spun too long and I'm giving up.

Historia
Major Ian Thomas, a British theologian and teacher and the founder of Torchbearers Bible Schools, spent seven exhausting years trying to live for Christ when he realized that God actually just wanted to live through him. He offered this extremely simple advice in considering the Christian life: Go where you are sent, stay where you are put, and do what you are asked. With her trademark warmth and keen sense of humor, esteemed Bible study teacher Jill Briscoe follows Major Thomas' example to help listeners learn how to allow God to live through them.

Historia
Cornelia Arnolda Johanna "Corrie" ten Boom (April 15, 1892 - April 15, 1983) was a Dutch watchmaker who worked with her father Casper and other family members to help, reportedly, 800 Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust during World War II by hiding them in their home. Eventually, the family was caught; ten Boom was arrested, sent to Ravensbruck concentration camp, and released after 10 months due to a clerical error. Later in life, ten Boom wrote The Hiding Place, a biography that recounts the story of her family's efforts and how she was able to find hope while imprisoned.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

interesting inside view of poor America
Revisado: 01-13-20
This is a book that many of us can recognize from our own personal lives, or the lives of friends and family around us. I was teary eyed more than once and also celebrated the authors own success in this crazy American dream. There is a lot of pride that comes from being a hillbilly and the descendants of some tough pioneers, but there are some sharp edges that come from being a survivor, as well. J.D. Vance gives us an inside look at those who struggle with the sharp edges, with poverty, and with the darkness that blocks out the Hope of a future.
