Historia
It was Vera’s idea to buy the Itza. The “world’s most advanced smart speaker!” didn’t interest Thiago, but Vera thought it would be a bit of fun for them amidst all the strange occurrences happening in the condo. It made things worse. The cold spots and scratching in the walls were weird enough, but peculiar packages started showing up at the house - who ordered industrial lye? Then, there was the eerie music at odd hours, Thiago waking up to Itza projecting light shows in an empty room.

An unrelenting haunting that will have you revisit reading it, it's that good.
Revisado: 02-17-25
the element of barriers for our main character in this book seems to grow longer as the book continues but it emphasize a very really reality of grief, loss, and the challenges one faces to reidentify oneself. the book wraps up all that crap in a beautifully gutrenching horror story that will linger with you to revisit much like the main character. a fast past and creepy read to enjoy if you desire a lil cosmic horror with a well developed character and story line.

The dark magical realism in this book is an absolute treat.
Revisado: 02-12-25
The book does very well in providing and detailing to the reader what it is like to be within an environment(s), both knowing and unknowingly, that is unweilding and omnipresent. the cold stir of how people and places can operate. what I found particularly moving about the book besides it's wonderous and dark world building is the dynamic between son and father. The relationship confusion and feelings observed felt like witnessing two ppl polaring in a circle from each other despite their best efforts to be truly present for one another. Their dynamic, feelings, and enormous efforts to love are what sit with me the most post read. The book does vividly detail tragic and graphic moments so it's not for everyone and there's nothing truly easy going about it so if you are looking for something psychologically mid and easy going on it's journey it's not for you. this book plays on hard mode but it does give you some relief in the end.

Historia
In the Dream House is Carmen Maria Machado's engrossing and wildly innovative account of a relationship gone bad, and a bold dissection of the mechanisms and cultural representations of psychological abuse. Tracing the full arc of a harrowing relationship with a charismatic but volatile woman, Machado struggles to make sense of how what happened to her shaped the person she was becoming. And it's that struggle that gives the book its original structure: each chapter is driven by its own narrative trope - the haunted house, erotica, the bildungsroman....

Historia
By age thirty, Stephanie Foo was successful on paper: She had her dream job as an award-winning radio producer at This American Life and a loving boyfriend. But behind her office door, she was having panic attacks and sobbing at her desk every morning. After years of questioning what was wrong with herself, she was diagnosed with complex PTSD—a condition that occurs when trauma happens continuously, over the course of years.

I was moved by her journey. I felt a lot of feelings (most uncomfortable ones) but I got to embrace them in a different way than I would have and I am grateful.
