I absolutely loved the Godless Heathens trilogy and was so excited to see it come to audio! I loved Gabe even more on audio and he just might be my new favorite (sorry, Saint). I had so much empathy for Gabe and could feel how broken he was, how much he needed Avery to quiet the noise, and how Avery needed Gabe's darkness just the same. Everything was about control and self-worth for the two of them, Gabe with his compulsions with fire and Avery with her food.

I loved how Gabe cared for Avery and how protective and possessive he was. It takes one broken person to understand another and that's what these two were, two broken souls who found exactly what they needed in each other. I loved how Gabe helped Avery see herself for what she truly was and the moment she discovered that was absolutely breathtaking.

I loved the push and pull, the give and take, all the resistance surrendering to the undeniable connection between them. I felt so many emotions with this book as it resonated with me on a highly personal level, pushing my comfort zone while infusing the story with hope for moving forward. The writing was outstanding, the story was captivating and the narration was totally on point, Gideon as the morally grey MMC with a heart of gold and Kasi as his "firefly" who challenged him and wasn't afraid to stand up for herself. It was simply incredible and I cannot wait for Killian's story to release to audio next!

"Run, and I will catch you. Hide, and I will find you. This is my kingdom, pretty girl. Even God doesn't step foot here."

You have not truly experienced Saint Laurier until you've heard him in Gideon Frost's wickedly growly voice. Absolute perfection in the audiobook narration by Gideon and Kasi Hollowell and the duet style is an added plus. Kasi captured Willow's personality flawlessly, her innocence, her strengths and weaknesses, the way she responded to Saint. And Gideon, just second to none! HE IS SAINT!! I devoured every minute of it!!

I am still beyond words for this book!! One of my top reads of last year, it was deliciously dark and dirty, and I was completely mesmerized and captivated throughout. Atmospheric and chilling, Brutal Savage God, first in the Godless Heathens series, explored the depths of depravity at Chryseum Reformatory Academy, a place for the unloved and forgotten where rules were broken and wickedness and evil lived.

"Glacial ice and Blue Morpho butterflies. Death and life exist together in his irises."

Saint, one of the worshipped lords of the academy, was a narcissistic psychopath, unapologetic for his actions, completely accepting of who he was. Dark and deviant and devastatingly gorgeous, he was a true villain, not an anti-hero, not a bully, with no hope for redemption. I couldn't get enough of Saint, his obsessions and compulsions, and I was fascinated by everything he thought and did. Death and life intertwined together in his world and there was so much more to his psyche under the surface.

Saint found his match in Willow and I loved how strong and feisty she was, how she constantly fought back. I was drawn to how he pushed her, helping her find her way out of the darkness of her nightmares, making her feel calm and safe. She challenged him just as much, breaking the boredom and monotony, getting under his skin and awakening something inside him. I loved his protectiveness and how possessive he was as he claimed Willow and pulled her into his world. Both broken by their pasts, they gave each other exactly what they needed, their connection so powerful and intense, and I couldn't look away. There was so much raw emotion and exposed vulnerability as they opened to each other fully, body and mind, straight through to their souls.

"It matters because I don't want that mask you wear for the rest of the world. I want you, Willow, all of you, no lies, no hidden truths. I want every ugly part. My ego won't allow me to accept anything less."

What happens when the good girl falls for the villain? Can a psychopath feel love?

I loved the way Saint expressed his love for Willow in his own way, the only way he knew how, caring for her, protecting her, the little thoughtful things he would do. It was so beautiful how he showed his vulnerability only to Willow, completely letting her in to learn his deepest, darkest secrets, the things that he kept hidden from the rest of the world.

I will never stop recommending this book!! It's the one that started my obsession with dark romance. Mind the trigger warnings, listen to the audiobook, read the Kindle or print version. Do all the things and indulge in Saint's twisted darkness. You can thank me later.

"There are no takebacks, Willow," I say to her. "You are mine, and you always will be."

"I can't keep playing this game. I can't keep wanting someone who isn't mine...who belongs to someone else."

Ashlyn has been dating Logan, settled into a long-term relationship with him for years. She doesn't question his cheating ways, either ignoring the issue or too naive to even notice. But then everything changes after a text at a stop light when she meets Colt and the two of them are drawn together. Colt treats her the way she deserves to be treated but he holds back based on his friendship with Logan. And to further complicate things, Colt is fake dating Ashlyn's roommate, Mia, to protect her from her ex who won't let her go.

Colt was the perfect college bad boy hero, thoughtful and kind despite his playboy past. I loved how he came to Ashlyn's rescue to pick her up in the pouring rain when her boyfriend blew her off. I especially loved how he fell for Ashlyn after seeing her in his t-shirt. His character arc was well developed with his high school girlfriend's betrayal and his reasons for quitting hockey and for getting kicked out of his last school. And I loved the way he was able to pick up the pieces and finally fight for what he wanted.

Ashlyn, on the other hand, was a more frustrating character as she continued to put up with Logan's behavior yet she hesitated to move forward. She let him play into her doubts and insecurities and I would have liked to see her develop more confidence in herself sooner. She seemed immature and jealous of Colt and Mia even after learning their relationship was fake. And she definitely needed to be a little more trusting, especially of her girlfriends who had never given her any reason not to be.

Colt was exactly what Ashlyn needed in every way and I loved how they supported each other as they explored their feelings, moving past the games they initially seemed to be playing. There was no third act break, which would have added more angst and dimension to the story, so this was more about Colt and Ashlyn just giving themselves permission to let each other in.

I listened to the audio version but I found the emotions to be somewhat lacking in the narration. I didn't feel the connection between Colt and Ashlyn like I would have through reading their words. And based on the narrators, I would have expected Colt to be older than college age, which often contrasted too sharply with Ashlyn's immaturity and naivete.

Since I read Don't Let Me Go first, I wanted to see where it all began so I liked the glimpses of what would come in that book here. All things considered, I thought I would have enjoyed this story more as I love the best friend's girl trope. But I'm still looking forward to continuing the series to see where it goes next.

** Special thanks to author Kelsie Rae for gifting me this audiobook to listen to and review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. **
