Historia
After two bestselling series examining the Civil War and WWII, Newt Gingrich and William R. Forstchen have turned their sharp eye for detail on the Revolutionary War with To Try Men's Souls. The story follows three men with three very different roles to play in history: General George Washington, Thomas Paine, and Jonathan Van Dorn, a private in Washington's army.

Breathing history to life
Revisado: 04-19-10
Extraordinary recap of a misunderstood and underappreciated snippet of time. Yes, the story plodded along in detail, but that helps listeners understand how bad these men suffered (for our future) in breadth and depth. Overall a surprisingly fantastic read for me in reflecting upon what it really took to create our nation against the odds. The narrator worked hard at distinguising many characters, and should have tried the limited female character instead of the poorly done woman who was distractingly used.

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 02-06-10
I expected a potential few good thoughts but was pleasantly surprised by a well organized and thoughtful study of influece. Some affirmation of the common sense strategies I already employ, but added new dimension to those, while also introducing new views expand upon. Also applies to helping my autistic child organize himself. Good, straight forward narration. Liked the way they applied the same theorize/techniques to a repeated variety of examples (i.e. an over eater, a village, etc.). Ended up pleasantly surprised at a better than expected book.

Good fun for a commute
Revisado: 11-23-09
While not spectacular, it's comparable entertainment to Kent, Forrester etc. Could skip the pat romantic interlude, but I gues it helps break up the enjoyable naval action. I think the excellent narrator is what truly gels the story well as an audible book.

Historia
Jason Bourne, international assassin of deadly repute, was an identity assumed by covert agent David Webb. Retired from the CIA and now a professor at Georgetown University, Webb's life is finally his own—until he becomes the target of an assassin and is framed for the murder of his two closest associates. Fighting for his life against unseen assailants, the Bourne identity asserts itself, leaving Jason Bourne in control. Barely a half-step ahead of his nemesis and the CIA, who believes he has gone rogue, Bourne finds himself a pawn in a larger, far deadlier game.

Full of the twists you expect from Ludlum
Revisado: 03-12-05
A great stand-alone venture even if you've not read the previous Bourne books. He explains enough background as required to fill in the gaps. Ludlum twists and turns are always enjoyable and Van Lustbader stays in tune with it. Scott Brick is always the perfect narrator for a read involving a lot of characters. Bourne is a more fallable character here than in the movies and the books are always more complex. Enjoyed this as I did Demille's, The Lion's Game.

"If Robert Littell didn't invent the American spy novel," says Tom Clancy, "he should have." In this spectacular Cold-War-as-Alice-in-Wonderland epic, Littell, "the American le Carre," takes us down the rabbit hole and into the labyrinthine world of espionage that has been the CIA for the last half-century. "Ostensibly a single novel, The Company can also be listened to as an anthology of cracking good spy stories," says ( Publishers Weekly).

Incredible ride
Revisado: 01-02-04
What a fantastic trip through a historically based story. Broad yet deep, the story presents great inter-relationships between characters and story, leaving one wondering what really went on behind the scene in so many world events. Will definitely look into more of his books and, as always, absolutely love Scott Brick as a narrator. He's a master altering his voice and accent to keep up with numerous characters.

In the latest from Nelson DeMille (author of The Lion's Game), Paul Brenner is called out of CID retirement to investigate the murder 30 years ago of an army lieutenant in Vietnam. Brenner's trip up country, with a beautiful American expatriate for company, will lead him to uncover an explosive, long-buried secret.

Slow but interesting; expect more from DeMille
Revisado: 02-20-03
A well done look into modern Vietnam and how it is still haunted by the past. As a big DeMille fan though, I'd expect a little faster pace. Love the Paul Brenner character (similar to his John Corey) and very well read as always by Scott Brick. Agree with other reviews that it could be faster and more varied. Best if you're wanting a little modern history lesson than the normal cleverness of DeMille's story development.
