Historia
Derek Harrington, retired Marine Force Recon and SERE instructor, is barely scraping by teaching the basics of wilderness survival. His fledgling bushcraft school is on the cusp of going out of business and expenses are piling up fast. His only true mission these days? To get his ailing father into a full care facility and to support his ex-wife and their son. When one of his students presents him with an opportunity too good to be true—$20,000 to instruct a private group for 30 days in upstate New York—Derek reluctantly takes the job.

Good story but the author ventures too far in areas he has little knowledge
Revisado: 01-27-25
Overall very cool story. But I had to put it down for long periods as I could not bear the author's clear stance against a man, even a supposed former DEVGRU operator (which is ???...only team guys get that tryout...but maybe one of the intel teams). That is one of the biggest problems w today's young generations. They are, frankly, taught to be pussies. EVERY man has a DUTY to protect himself, his family and those weaker than he from another individual who means to bring violence upon him. The author's ideology unfortunately is disappointing and a little nauseating.

Historia
Carol Leonnig has been reporting on the Secret Service for The Washington Post for most of the last decade, bringing to light the secrets, scandals, and shortcomings that plague the agency today - from a toxic work culture to dangerously outdated equipment to the deep resentment within the ranks at key agency leaders, who put protecting the agency’s once-hallowed image before fixing its flaws. But the Secret Service wasn’t always so troubled.

Repeated incompetence...but we need to hear the Secret Service side of the story
Revisado: 01-13-25
This is a story of an agency staffed with a vast majority of patriotic individuals with no true combat experience. And the story about 'misunderstanding' the payment for prostitutes in Columbia is just fu$%^/×÷ idiotic. That is 17-year old cherry sh÷/!. Seriously!!!?? I have no issue with skirt chasing or pant chasing. None. I've been a commander. The rule for us is the same - never get caught and know your country of ststion well beforehand. On a side note...no one would have given 2 sh/!s about Hilary's "outrage".

Good story but peppered with cowardly indecision
Revisado: 12-22-24
Garrett Cole is made to often be excessively indecisive in the most sensitive circumstances which is uncharacteristic of a former SF group member. in fact it is almost unheard of that any SF group member would join the DEA after serving.

Carr's dedication to historical detail and, thus, forming the most accurate picture possible (as is his practice in all his books) places this comprehensive depiction of the 1983 Beirut tragedy in the clearest light I have read to date. And, as always, his storytelling is captivating, serious and palpable.

Good story but some irritating mistakes on military nomenclature and culture
Revisado: 09-16-24
Overall entertaining with good plot and subplots. Some 'amateur' mistakes: 1) As a general rule an Air Force special operations unit never ever would lead a US Marine or US Army unit in direct combat, 2) there is no such thing as a "clip"; ammunition is loaded into a rifle or pistol magazine. Guns are those big ones on a naval vessel or airship, 3) there is simply no way an LTC in the USAF or 0-5 in any branch, would not know to take an M4 carbine off safe before firing it.

Historia
An Asian war that would have escalated into a nuclear nightmare has been halted, thanks to the raw courage, unparalleled skill, and total commitment of the Dreamland force. But an analysis of radar data has revealed the presence of an unknown super-weapon in the area: a robot warplane with terrifying capabilities, dubbed the “ghost clone.” Though strikingly similar to Dreamland’s own U/MF Flighthawk, no one knows where this fearsome instrument of destruction originated, but a rogue nation possessing a squadron of them could wreak unimaginable havoc on an unsuspecting free world.

Revisado: 09-13-24
Great story but leave it to authors who are former AF to call a magazine a "clip". It's just a quintessential example of the pure fiction In this entertaining series: an AF unit like "Whiplash" simply would not exist...its just not coded in the US Military culture and warrior pipeline be cause it would be stupid.

Historia
The weapon is codenamed “Razor” - the brainchild of the brilliant minds at Dreamland - a mobile chemical laser system with a range of 600 kilometers, capable of downing anything that flies. The destruction of an American aircraft over Northern Iraq suggests the inexplicable and unthinkable: a vengeful foe now possesses the lethal technology. It is a fear that draws an old warrior out of retirement, and sends Dreamland’s best pilots to the skies to determine what the enemy has and to help take it away from him. But politics threatens to crush a covert engagement that must be won in the air and on the ground....

Entertaining fiction
Revisado: 09-09-24
Good story. Keeps the readers attention and has a lot of good military nomenclature. But it lacks a warrior's perspective. For one, no Air Force special ops unit would ever lead a ground special ops combat unit from any other branch - especially MARSOC. It's not their mission or expertise. AF PJs and JTACs are great, but they would never operate as a leadership unit in areas outside their expertise. Second, the 'Whiplash' unit would not be 'part time' with unit members having day jobs...then getting called up by the President to supercede many other tier 1 or 2 special operations units who are superior in every aspect. Just not even close to reality. Third, and here is where I realized Dale Brown, albeit a good writer, never served in uniform, and needs way better editors: no soldier, airman, marine or sailor will EVER call a pistol or rifle a "gun" or it's respective magazine a "clip". That is simply embarrassing.

Exceptional narrative of intense urban firefight reminiscent of the Battle of the Black Sea/Somalia
Revisado: 08-11-24
A few liberties taken that are truly fiction...such as women serving in a special operations assault unit. They are capable in every way but simply have yet to prove physically capable of a male professional athlete - which is the level of a special operator. The standards are being lowered to allow this (by cowardly civilian leaders who have never had to defend themselves or their country in combat), but this can only be taken so far.

Good story overall BUT no one would care if China invaded Somalia
Revisado: 07-10-24
The pace of the story and sub plots all good. The premise of the story that the US would give two fu%&$ if China, or anyone else for that matter, attacked/invaded Somalia is simply untethered to reality.
