Historia
A century ago, the Sentience Wars tore the galaxy apart and nearly ended the entire concept of intelligent space-faring life. In the aftermath, a curious tradition was invented - something to cheer up everyone who was left and bring the shattered worlds together in the spirit of peace, unity, and understanding. Once every cycle, the civilizations gather for the Metagalactic Grand Prix - part gladiatorial contest, part beauty pageant, part concert extravaganza, and part continuation of the wars of the past.

Revisado: 11-22-24
Great book, enjoyed it as something fresh. I'm not a singing show person, however this was well-written and interesting throughout it.

We already rely on science to tell us what to eat, when to exercise, and how long to sleep. Why not use science to help us improve our relationships? In this revolutionary book, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Dr. Amir Levine and Rachel Heller scientifically explain why some people seem to navigate relationships effortlessly, while others struggle.

Interesting psychological concept.
Revisado: 11-22-22
I've listened to this book twice.
This is an interesting book on a newer psychology school, that can be helpful to figure yourself out. I don't feel it's an over-encompassing thing like the authors say it is, and current DSM methods have more research to support this. Attachment theory is a tool. Many of the conflict examples wouldn't work in reality because the authors had knowledge from each couple member that the couple did not. It can be helpful to know your partners and your attachment style, but I disagree with the book on codependency and boundaries. You want interdependence, not being dependent on or regulate your partners moods. The examples of secure people show this, along with respect, having a high eq, and assert boundaries. Which they learned in their primary relationships or later in life. I wish the book explored that more. Oh well, it's still helpful. Maybe there are books that build on this theory.

IFS reveals how the subpersonalities or "parts" of each individual's psyche relate to each other like members of a family, and how - just as in a family - polarization among parts can lead to emotional suffering. IFS originator Richard Schwartz and master clinician Martha Sweezy explain core concepts and provide practical guidelines for implementing IFS with clients who are struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addiction, and other behavioral problems.

insightful book
Revisado: 11-03-22
Book was a great look into IFS Therapy and it's inner workings. I wish the last two chapters were flipped as one of them about it's place in the world is one you can skip, and the other has important insights about the therapy and a patient in IFS.

Different from Bukowskis usual work
Revisado: 05-20-22
I came into this book as a fan of Bukowskis work, I own several of his books on here.
it took me about 2/3s in to be into this book because it's completely different from Bukowskis writing. It's a 1950s era pulp detective novel in his style. which is jarring from his grounded real style. It's a slow burn. Once one of the story threads resolves, then it becomes interesting.

Helpful for learning self esteem
Revisado: 05-03-22
As someone who had to learn how to have healthy self esteem, this book is insightful. The author explains it in a clear way, and gives personal examples of when he was struggling with one of the pillars as said in the book title.

Great look into the history of the early NFL...
Revisado: 02-28-22
A great look into the early history of the NFL, and the contributions of African American athletes that pushed the NFL and America into a better world.
The only thing I'd change in this book would be to shift the chapter about the modern NFL's coach representation problem to the end of the book. While relevant, it felt jarring as the rest of the book was sequencial and focused on the athletes in the books title.

Disappointed. Don't recommend.
Revisado: 11-15-21
I've seen this book recommended many times for books about relationships, and I feel it doesn't deserve the praise anymore. Maybe this was groundbreaking 30 years ago, but between all the Freud references, heavy Christian influence over science, and other books with better research, this book ain't worth it.
I'd recommend Attached by Amir Levine over this book.
