A Dangerous Recurring Phenomenon

After researching the European witch hunts extensively, I was struck to realize the Satanic Panic is really the same phenomenon happening once again. Now with Qanon it's resurgent yet again. The process of confabulated stories of vast Satanic conspiracies is the same with minor variations. (Why don't they fly on broomsticks anymore? 🤔) Fascinating subject, but the writing could have been more engaging. I would have preferred something more high level and not so much about a single case.

Wish it had gone further

It tells the story of the birth of SpaceX in detail up to the first successful launch of Falcon I. After that it's most summary like an afterward. I would have liked to hear more about the development of landing rockets.

Author Michael Benson explains how 2001 was made, telling the story primarily through the two people most responsible for the film, Kubrick and science fiction legend Arthur C. Clarke. Benson interviewed Clarke many times, and has also spoken at length with Kubrick's widow, Christiane.

Epic achievement!

My appreciation for the film 2001 A Space Odyssey has only grown over the years. This book has actually increased that appreciation immensely. I had no idea of the extremes, expenses and innovations that went into filming even short sequences, many of which were discarded as being sub par. Watching this movie now blows my mind on a whole new level.
