Happy to hear there is a 4th book upcoming
Revisado: 12-01-23
After listening this book 3 in the Children of Time novel set, I was happy to hear there is a 4th book upcoming. Not my favorite of the three. Loved the philosophical approach but also never felt like this was the finale.

If you are looking for something different from a sci-fi novel, this is it. Mel Hudson's performance as a narrator was top notch. I will forever love and hate your voice at the same time... iykyk

Great Story Wrong Narrator
Revisado: 06-07-23
Headline says it all. This was a wonderfully beautiful story but the narrator was just awful. No passion at all.

Historia
Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Lost the plot
Revisado: 03-21-23
Story had potential but the plot got lost somewhere. I also did not care for the narrator. I feel like she’s lacking big time in the energy department. One of the last major events from the book that seemed like it should have had more urgency to it was brought down by the same monotone voice used throughout the rest of the book.

I don’t know.
Revisado: 02-01-23
The performance by the narrator was 10/10. So good. The way the story concludes is not confusing but I think it renders the story pointless? If the earth was willing to compromise why did that not happen a million years prior. What changed for it? Why was there a faction between the stone eaters if they were always a handshake away from acceptance of each other, what changed for them? Am I missing something? I don’t know. Time to jump on Reddit I suppose.

Historia
This is the way the world ends, for the last time. The season of endings grows darker, as civilization fades into the long cold night. Essun - once Damaya, once Syenite, now avenger - has found shelter, but not her daughter. Instead there is Alabaster Tenring, destroyer of the world, with a request. But if Essun does what he asks, it would seal the fate of the Stillness forever. Far away, her daughter Nassun is growing in power - and her choices will break the world.

I still don’t even really know
Revisado: 12-20-22
I still don’t even really know what’s happening and I love it. From previous book: “But for real, the way the author creates a world that is familiar yet so far out there is pretty damn amazing.”
This second book is a little slower than the first. It expanded outside the original cast and maybe that’s where it slows down in character development. But again, I freakin love it! We’ll done, can’t wait for the next.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Historia
In Winter, life force matches up to the toughest of the seasons. In this second novel in her acclaimed Seasonal cycle, the follow-up to Ali Smith's sensational Autumn, Smith's shape-shifting quartet of novels casts a merry eye over a bleak post-truth era with a story rooted in history, memory, and warmth, its taproot deep in the evergreens: art, love, laughter. It's the season that teaches us survival.

Historia
At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery - and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth - and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery...and the tools for fighting back.

I am “new” to reading
Revisado: 08-05-22
To be honest, I’ve always hated books. Maybe it’s because of the junk they made us read in school, maybe it’s because television and video games exist?
I don’t know for sure. But lately I’ve been trying to escape the digital world. -I know, I know, I am still listening to these books on a digital platform, but as I listen on my long car rides I am also picking up the paperbacks and reading the old fashioned way at home.
All this is to say, that it’s taken me a while to really find genres and then authors that speak to me. I picked up Blake Crouch’s Dark Matter on a whim and was blown away. I found my genre. I found my author. I’ve never been so excited to pick up another book, this one being Recursion.
I fell in love with this book/audible book the moment I heard Book One’s quote, “Time is but memory in the making” - Vladimir Nabokov.
Thank you Mr. Crouch, can’t wait to read Upgrade.
