Woooow. Who Knew!?
Revisado: 04-21-25
What a great story!
I stumbled onto Du Maurier because of “Rebecca”. (Amazing book) I fell in love with her writing style and have since completed four more of her books. This book making number five.
Each story has been night and day different from each other, yet the writing quality the same. Something about the way she writes that I can’t quite put my finger on, that pulls me in from the first chapter and doesn’t let go till the finishing sentence.
I love to start each story without researching or knowing anything going in and just fully enjoying the enterically woven, developing journey bit by bit.
Many said they didn’t care for the ending of this book. I thought it was absolutely perfect. No other ending could have been this satisfying.
I find myself wishing Du Maurier would have written more books in her time, or maybe even written many of the classics that I desperately want to get through, but just don’t find captivating. I loose interest in so many highly acclaimed books, but NEVER hers. SO glad I stumbled onto this jewel of an author.
I highly recommend this book for any Du Maurier fan. Very different than “Rebecca” yet completely captivating.

SoOoOo GOOOOOOD
Revisado: 04-05-25
Lately I’ve been struggling to find a book that I don’t loose interest in half way through. THIS BOOK… I could NOT stop listening to!!! From beginning to end. Wow. Sooooooo good.
It did have the same, or very similar dark but somehow enchanting feeling as Dracula did. The story is told beautifully and the ending did not disappoint. Kept me wanting more more more. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her "glamour" to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story - a story that has never been told - until now. Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death.

Historia
One of the most revered works in English literature, Great Expectations traces the coming of age of a young orphan, Pip, from a boy of shallow aspirations into a man of maturity. From the chilling opening confrontation with an escaped convict to the grand but eerily disheveled estate of bitter old Miss Havisham, all is not what it seems in Dickens’ dark tale of false illusions and thwarted desire.

Pleasantly Surprised
Revisado: 06-18-24
My reason for starting this book was because a friend of mine told me she didn’t like it, however her husband loved it. This made me curious and gave me a need to decide for myself. I started this book with low “expectations” (hehe), but fell in love with this book somewhere along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, (this journey) it was so good in every way. The ending was perfect. (from what I understand, Dickens was originally going to go with a different ending, but was talked into this one by a friend right before publishing, I am SO glad he listened to his friend!) I definitely recommend this book!! Also, the narrator was wonderful! A+++. Dive in! You won’t regret it!

Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Loved This SoOoOo Much! Best Narrator EVER!
Revisado: 02-09-24
So, going in, I had no idea who this narrator was. I purchased this purely based on ratings, I did not realize this is the actor who played Gollum until of course we met Gollum and the voice was identical and I had to look it up! Wow! What a talented actor! (In so many ways!) The story itself obviously needs no review, but listening to this version on audio was SUCH a treat! I couldn’t recommend it more! ♥️

It's just a hideously papered room. At least that's what everybody thought. But when a woman suffering from a nervous condition is housed in the room, things begin to surface from the wallpaper. Things that seem familiar but are best left quiet and undisturbed.
