I haven't read such a powerful book in a long time. This should go down as a classic of horror along with Dracula, Frankenstein and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Simply amazing prose and story!

This is a franchise novel and I've already found franchise novels to not be the best writing and the plot is usually at the service to the films or television shows or whatever.
I can say that Catalyst is written very well! But alas the plot is at a glacier pace. Nothing much happens and I could predict how it would end way before it did end. The good news is the performance is stellar! The reader is fantastic and there is incidental John Williams music and great sound effects that really add to the experience.
I will see the film in two days so we'll see how the novel sets up Rogue One.

Amazing story, writing and performance

I think this is one of the best books I've heard all year. The plot and action is gripping; the writing is superb and the reader is spot on with enough gravitas to make the book come alive. Bleak thought it is, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Highly recommended.

Couldn't finish it

I almost always finish my purchases but could not get through this one. The writing seemed amateur, like written by a freshman creative writing class. The second story was so bad, I kept skipping ahead. The sex scenes played like old seventies porn. And I did not care for the reader who sounded like the old late night TV ads for phone sex numbers. And her vocal fry was so bad, almost unlistenable. To women readers, please clean up your vocal fry before publishing an audio book. This is the second book I've experienced with this problem, the other one being The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake.

Loved it! This was a very satisfying read: fantastic plot, great characters, an evil villain, an impossible quest. Highly recommended.
