A Divine Romance with a Compelling Plot
Revisado: 11-05-22
I tend to be a bit picky when it comes to romance books even though I love them, (especially LGBTQ as a queer person) as they can corny and predictable.
I absolutely LOVED this book! The writing was detailed to the perfect amount, never bordering on too much or too little, and the characters were easy to get attached to.
The performance was beautiful! Characters were easy to distinguish even just based off of voice and they were perfectly matched for the characters.
I really hope this author makes a sequel, loved this! I finished this in the span of 4 days after working from 4am-7pm each day, if that gives you an accurate idea for how much I enjoyed this.

When it comes to her career, Cade Elgin has it all figured out. Only “professional talk” has become her default mode, relationships are nonexistent, and don’t even mention the word “orgasm”. All work and no play makes Cade a dull human. But when she inherits a sex toy store, Cade is caught between business and a store filled with every imaginable kind of pleasure - including her infuriatingly irresponsible and deliciously sexy new co-owner.

Twenty-five years ago, the hand of fate marked four newborns and sent them to the four corners of the Great Kingdoms. They were schooled and trained as rulers of their lands in preparation for the Golden Eclipse ceremony: a festival to celebrate a thousand years of peace and prosperity since the Great War. Crow, ruler of Northlands, a skilled swordsman and expert tactician, is as reclusive and stoic as the mountains that surround him. Tancho has spent his life in strict discipline, governing the Westlands with a fair mind and gentle hand.

Typical Characters, Well Written
Revisado: 01-12-22
Well written, and the narration didn't take away from the story & the characters were easy to recognize. Characters play typical roles (Strong fellow who is hungry and a bit dumb or Strong independent woman who with a vicious streak) but it is a nice story all the same.
The first sex scene felt a bit out of place to me due to the upsetting situation they were in but that is certainly one way to cope, so to each thier own I suppose.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Beautifully Written and Preformed
Revisado: 10-21-21
I have been looking for this book for sometime, due to reading partly years ago and regretfully losing it during a trip. Rereading it and finishing this novel was excellent, the way this author is able to go from different point of views in a manner that feels natural to the story is a skill on its own. Usually, when there are different povs in a story, I tend to like one over the rest and find myself waiting to hear the rest of that character's story while listening to the others. However, in this novel I was always interested in how each character was interwoven in each other despite being starkly different in origins and attitudes.
I cannot praise this author for the illustrations that were painted by her words, simply beautiful! If you want a book that gives you descriptions that exercise your imagination, this is a perfect choice.
The performance was also lovely, voice acting separated each character clearly in conversations and only enhanced the story.
Highly recommend!

Hilarious fantasy with LGBTQ+ rep!
Revisado: 08-05-21
This was absolutely stunning, I've been searching for books that remind me of how much I adore reading, and this is certainly one of them! The voice acting made a distinct difference between all characters and narration was lovely.
YA books in my experience usually suffer from over used tropes but there was no queerbating here or irritating love triangles! The main character is hilarious as hell, and the entire cast has an array of queer folk.
If you like fantasy, magic, representation of all kinds, this is definitely the book for you.

Historia
This vivid memoir speaks the intense truth of a Bronx tomboy whose 1960s girlhood was marked by her father's lullabies laced with his dissociative memories of combat in World War II. At four years old, Annie Rachele Lanzillotto bounced her Spaldeen on the stoop and watched the boys play stickball in the street; inside, she hid silver teaspoons behind the heat pipes to tap calls for help while her father beat her mother.

Can't Recommend Enough!
Revisado: 06-16-21
I stumbled upon this book out of pure coincidence and I could not be more happier that I found this. Annie Lanzillotto has a voice that could be talking to you about something absolutely mundane and you would still be riveted as if she was talking about winning the Olympics with a broken leg. Her voice truly gave even more life to her writing and felt more like a friend retelling old stories than a stranger reading a memoir. I frequently go back to this book during long drives or when I am working late and it never fails to make me laugh & pull at my heart strings.
As a butch woman, I am always looking for memoirs and other such books written by butch women as there are unique experiences that a rarely shown in other queer writer's books.
Cannot recommend enough!

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Interesting story with representation!
Revisado: 05-25-21
I loved the personality of Gideon as a character and how she was portrayed. Absolutely adore the blunt way that she speaks and the gay representation. The rest of the cast of characters were interesting as well, and the voice actor did an excellent job of separating the voices clearly. Performance was wonderful and it was easy to tell the characters apart by their voices alone.
This is a bit heavy on world building for my taste, but that is to be expected of the first book in a series, especially where the background means so much to the characters within it. Overall, excellent book and well worth the read, definitely going to reread this when I have the time.
