Historia
The name Captain James Cook is one of the most recognisable in Australian history - an almost mythic figure who is often discussed, celebrated, reviled and debated. But who was the real James Cook? This Yorkshire farm boy would go on to become the foremost mariner, scientist, navigator and cartographer of his era, and to personally map a third of the globe. His great voyages of discovery were incredible feats of seamanship and navigation.

Wow, I found this a GREAT adventure book!
Revisado: 03-14-23
I totally hesitated getting this book based on some of the negative reviews (Fitzsimons writing style???). This was a delightful story full of adventure and intrigue! The narrator was TREMENDOUS!! He weaved in and out of the various characters dialect with amazing ease! 21 hours went by a few days. Really enjoyed this. NOTE: this book is only about the rise of Cook and his journey with the Endeavor to just Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia.

disappointed in my fellow reviewers.
Revisado: 09-02-10
Is it just me? I could only take 3 hours of this and had to quit. What are the other reviewers getting out of this disjointed/dated text. The author is ALL over the place, tangent after tangent. Stephen Ambrose, David McCullough, Simon Winchester, Nathaniel Philbrick- I have several books by each of the authors and learn alot about the subjects of their particular books. I know very little about ancient Egypt and this book gave me zero more information, but I did get the author's biased views on many subjects NOT related to ancient Egypt. AND the narrator was just bad. Her toned of voice just grated on me. How could someone give this book a 5 star( and many reviewers did!!)?? Sorry, I just don't get it.

a good listen. Although is WAS helpful to go online to view/download the various maps that are referenced to throughout the story. Actually it is absolutely required to understand what is being said. But it is easy enough to do.
