The only daughter of a beloved king and queen, Princess Lissar has grown up in the shadow of her parents' infinite adoration for each other - an infatuation so great that it could only be broken by the queen's unexpected passing. As Lissar reaches womanhood, it becomes clear to everyone in the kingdom that she has inherited her late mother's breathtaking beauty. But on the eve of her seventeenth birthday, Lissar's exquisite looks become a curse. Betrayed and abused, Lissar is forced to flee her home to escape her father's madness.

Incredible story—one of the best books I’ve ever read. Profound, honest, gentle, unflinching. A masterpiece.

What a great, imaginative, well written book! Narration is also excellent. Highly recommend – one of those fiction books that’s so well written that it’s wonderful for children and adults are like.

Must read!

One of the best books I’ve read this year. Beautifully written book that clearly explicates growing up with and recovering from life with a controlling, narcissistic parent who weaponizes scripture and the experience of wading through the enmeshed family dynamics left in his wake.

Historia
Fourteen-year-old Ozzy lives near Portland, Oregon, and is desperate for help. His scientist parents have been kidnapped after discovering a formula that enables mind control. Their work was so top secret that Ozzy is afraid to go to the police, but without help, he fears he'll never find his parents. Then he stumbles across a classified ad in the local newspaper that says "Wizard for Hire. Call 555-SPEL." Ozzy has read about wizards in books like Harry Potter, but wizards couldn't exist today, could they? After Ozzy meets the wizard Labyrinth - a.k.a. Rin - he's even more skeptical.

Character development is a little bit flat, but made up for by the fact that this is such a sweet, funny, fresh book! Really left a smile on my face and in my heart!
