Started out OK but went downhill

It wasn’t so bad that I abandoned it, but by the middle I have to admit I was rolling my eyes. There were so many contrivances to push the plot forward that made no sense to me, and the dialogue in many places bordered on bizarre. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Amazing performance

What a fun book and one made even better by the reader, who really brings it to life. It’s an engaging but linear story that has a video game-like vibe. The dialog is funny, definitely the best thing about the book.

Heavy handed writing with a plot that overstays its welcome.

This one is definitely not for me. The protagonist is exasperatingly dim-witted at times in the lives she visits to a point where I was rolling my eyes. The ending was sickly sweet with a heavy handed message and predictable ending. It ended up feeling overly long, and the longer the book went on the more I was just hoping it would end.

Been a fan of Pargin for years now. This didn’t disappoint. Among the fun characters and plot are shrewd observations of modern culture through multiple lenses that makes you think while also making you laugh.

Best book I’ve listened to in a long time

Wholly original, this is a story about a woman navigating a world in which her job is to deliver the secret key to happiness to her customers. It is near future, but it doesn’t feel like run-of-the-mill sci-fi as the core of the story is about Pearl and the characters who come into and out of her life.

I will be devouring any books Katie Williams has written.

Great plot and characters but some terrible dialog

I love Stephen King as much the next guy but I found myself cringing at the tortured slang Mr. King wrote for the kids. Other than that and a goofy manifested metaphor, I thought the book was a good time.

Wanted to love it

Put me in the camp of Connie Willis lovers who were disappointed by this book's shallowness, irritating protagonist, and poor writing overall. I'm bummed because I was hoping to find a fun series to get into. It wasn't so bad that I returned it unfinished, but it was close.

I think I would've preferred reading it in book form

Each chapter of the book is an interlocking short story, a format that is personally difficult for me because it takes me a while to get into the new story and by the time I have it's over and a new one is starting.

That's my own problem, but what really killed it for me was the narration. The slow drawn out pacing of each word and phrase was at first annoying but bloomed into full blown aggravation by the middle of the book. It seemed to get better by the end of the book and not all the characters were talking with the same slow plodding pacing, or maybe I had simply gotten used to it.

Either way, I would recommend the book to people if they are up to short stories, but I say skip the audio version.

Ah-mazing

If I could give this book 10 stars I would. It makes all other books I've given 5 stars automatically downgraded to 3 stars. It is scientifically sound (as far I can tell, but I'm no scientist), funny, gripping, and heartwarming without being sentimental. Loved loved loved it.
