Wonderful Romance Brilliantly Written
Revisado: 12-31-22
If Virginia Woolf had felt more liberated from her time, this is a story she might have written. A tribute to the actual author and the Audible narrator! Poetic, nuanced, complex, in a word- captivating!!

His name was Feliks. He came to London to commit a murder that would change history. A master manipulator, he had many weapons at his command, but against him were ranged the whole of the English police, a brilliant and powerful lord, and the young Winston Churchill himself. These odds would have stopped any man in the world - except the man from St. Petersburg.

It's June 1941, and the low point of the war. England throws wave after wave of RAF bombers across the Channel, but somehow the Luftwaffe is able to shoot them down at will. The skies, indeed, the war itself seem to belong to Hitler.

Complex & highly insightful
Revisado: 06-23-21
The author has a remarkable talent for weaving a complex plotline and also offering true wisdoms about human existential yearnings. I would call this an existential detective story! This book deals compassionately through the persona of Maisie Dobbs, with societal healing from crisis, in a post WWI-era and is uncannily relevant to our time. Very meaningful as a story, and the audio narration itself, as well as the writing, of course, is brilliant.

Poignant, beautiful story set just after WW1.
Revisado: 05-09-21
This is much more than a detective story. Interwoven within a complex and well-crafted plotline is the emotional healing from trauma, in post-WW1 in England and France. Powerful.
