Struggling with this book

I actually LOVE Abraham Hicks and listen to them regularly. But Abraham’s voice is that of Esther, and hearing Jerry read is off putting. He reads in a monotone, and reads quickly. There are parts that are repeated, and usually when an audio book references “inserts” accompanied with a recording - as this book did, it comes with some sort of downloadable pdf. I never got a pdf.
I’m thinking of returning this book and getting the physical version in its place.

What? What is happening in this story? What editor was used? Or did they use an editor?
The main character is as whining and self-involved as the writing style. The story ambles along some path, as if the author were picking it out in the dark with a dim flashlight. It feels as though she is making it up as we go along, with no need to go back and clarify earlier in the story.
This could have been told with about 2/3 less words. She flashes back so many times and has so many “memories” that the entire first half could have been told in flash backs and saved the reader (listener) a lot of time. Basic character descriptions that define motivations are still being revealed more than half way through the book, as if to say- oh ya, and then there’s this about the main character so this part of the story “makes sense” or the plot can go forward.
One has to wonder how this type of amateur writing gets published in the first place.....

Mediocre at best

Take something as intriguing as a dragon-shifter, add in some steamy romance, and you’ve surely got a recipe for some exciting and titillatingly story telling..... or do you? The connection between the two main characters falls flat- and without that main ingredient, there is no investment in the story. Forget the will they/won’t they- I went straight to- already? Why? What was the turning point from “it’s not professional to sleep with your study subjects” to “ok- lets do it”.
Unsatisfying and bland story telling.

This book ruined the series for me

This is such a disappointment in so many ways! Why the abridged version only? Why this narrator? Please redo this book!!
I love to follow an entire series, but I simply cannot get past this book and will not listen to any others.

I really wanted to like it....

The first part of the story is intriguing, with Green's journey in her training as a concubine and an assassin. However, as many have stated, after the first half of the book (which really could have been the conclusion of the first story in itself) the story takes these wild and unexpected twists and turns. Normally, I would delight in this style of story telling, but the new introduction of gods and goddesses and magic, etc felt like a completely different story than what we first read. It is as if Green's story was first written as a short story, then picked up again at a later time and added to. It really didn't work for me. The inclusion of her bells from childhood, her grandmother, Endurance, were simply not enough to tie the two halves together.
I had no problem with her sexual journey and explorations. It is simply a part of this poor, unfortunate girl's life. I just couldn't invest myself in Green once she left the Pomegranate Court, and so lost interest in the entirety of her story.

The story felt cliche in its tone, characters and rhythm. The performance is so awful, I thought I couldn't make it past the first 2 minutes. After purchasing this book, I did read one review that suggested listening at 1.25x narration speed, which helped- but only slightly. About halfway through, when that story really should be heating up, I found myself bored with the storyline, universities in the characters and thoroughly annoyed with the performers.
I think I will ask for my credit back, because this one is awful.....

A brilliant new look on self help

Would you listen to You are a Badass again? Why?

I have listened to this book 3 times already and will continue to listen! Jen Sincero hits on so many aspects of life that gets in the way of living life, that one listen is not nearly enough to fully comprehend all of her wisdom.

Any additional comments?

Sincero brings real-life stories and down-home practicality to finding your true self and opening up your life to its fullest potential.

I think I'll look for a different series

The story is one-dimensional. It drones on and on with uninteresting sex scenes (I began rolling my eyes half way through) and two characters I am not very interested in. It's nice they have a fast attraction and commitment to each other, but it doesn't make for an interesting read. I don't need all the "I love you, I hate you" found in other stories, but their conflicts are juvenile and trite. I had to finish it on principle- I mean, I spent the credit!- but if it had been given to me I would have put the book down long ago.
