Historia
As a park ranger with the National Park Service's law enforcement team, Andrea Lankford led search and rescue missions in some of the most beautiful (and dangerous) landscapes across America, from Yosemite to the Grand Canyon. But though she had the support of the agency, Andrea grew frustrated with the service's bureaucratic idiosyncrasies, and left the force after twelve years. Two decades later, however, she stumbles across a mystery that pulls her right back where she left off: three young men have vanished from the Pacific Crest Trail.

Okay...
Revisado: 03-23-25
Story has great intentions, narrator was painful to listen to.
NARRATOR- ONE of the worst narrators I've ever listened to. She kept mispronouncing names and locations (Mount San Jacinto, David Paulides, tahquitz, etc). It was extremely distracting. You think she would have done research on how to pronounce names if she wasn't sure. You'd also think that she could pronounce the name of one of the most renowned missing persons advocates in the outdoor community (David Paulides), but no. For the record, Jacinto is pronounced HA-seen-TOE, NOT JUH-sin-toe.
She spoke too fast in some parts.
Someone didn't listen to this for quality control, or they did and said, hey it's okay to mispronounce things hundreds of times.
STORY- I've followed many PCT missing persons updates, and it was cool hearing about behind the scenes happenings with their families. The story felt rushed, yet drawn out at the same time. Too many details about irrelevant things, and not enough detail about the missing hikers. It would have been more helpful to the families looking for their loved ones if each case was talked about separately and THEN tied together in the last few chapters.
As a SoCal native, I was disappointed about the lack of information about topography, wildlife, and explanation of these things as a whole. It would have been more immersive if the author had painted a clearer picture of this for the reader.
OVERALL- Loved hearing about her personal experiences, even if they were pretty vague.
It brought attention back to missing hikers and the dangers many PCT hikers face.
The editor of this book really should have worked harder bringing this concept together, it could have avoided jumping around too much.
Worth a read for the awareness it brings to missing hikers.

Good

This was a pretty good book in passing, but there were so many times that it felt rushed. Character development was lacking, and situations weren't vivid enough to invoke imagination.

Slow Build Up
Revisado: 05-03-24
I've read many books in the time travel genre and most always follow the same structure of: go back in time, make tons of money, etc...
THIS book totally did it's own thing and for that I was kept entertained in an intriguing way. It was refreshing to have a new take on time travel.
Sure, there were some parts that the author dropped some political buzzwords that I thought for sure would get preachy, but the book was kept politically neutral, and for that I applaud them. Too many authors do that and it's a deal breaker for me no matter which side of the political spectrum it comes from. I'm reading to escape reality, not be reminded of real life.
With that said, I was able to listen and escape my daily stressors with a book that was good from start, middle, and end.

Historia
As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier’s eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined...until now. The journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town’s bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing - and too earth-shattering in its implications - to be forgotten. In this audiobook, Max Brooks brings Kate’s extraordinary account to light for the first time, faithfully reproducing her words alongside his own extensive investigations into the massacre and the legendary beasts behind it.

I tried sooooo hard to get into the story. What made it difficult was the voice acting and the main character was extremely annoying.
The voice actor was supposed to be playing an adult female, but she sounded like a tween at the very oldest.
There is a ton of biased political undertones that killed the storyline.
I'm thankful that I can get my money back, but extremely sad that I cannot get nearly three and a half hours of my life back.

Book 3 lost me
Revisado: 02-09-23
The story seems to drag on and on. Book 3 was so boring that I skipped to the end to find no resolution. Unreal heroic situations, repetitive use of descriptors, painfully drawn out.

I really liked how this book didn't follow the tried and true formula of, wake up, get rich, repeat. Richard Bell had depth and I enjoyed the treasure hunt angle in this book!

Revisado: 05-27-22
I see more people mad about the jabs against liberals than the scene that described explicit molestation of a child; so narcissisticof these people to condemn views rather than content.
There are some things that do not need to be in books, and violence of this nature is one of them.
I stopped listening after that.

Rushed
Revisado: 05-23-22
The first two books were great, but this one felt rushed. It was basically them traveling the entire time. The main character seemed pretty dim and the connection to her daughter didn't seem believable.
When it comes to the narrator, yikes.
They couldn't make up their mind with how they wanted Lev to sound. Most of the time his character sounded like a first grader reading for the first time, which made it hard to follow along.
All in all, a decent series.
