Historia
Who changed the sex of God? This groundbreaking book proposes that the rise of alphabetic literacy reconfigured the human brain and brought about profound changes in history, religion, and gender relations. Making remarkable connections across brain function, myth, and anthropology, Dr. Shlain shows why pre-literate cultures were principally informed by holistic, right-brain modes that venerated the Goddess, images, and feminine values.

Good for beginners
Revisado: 12-04-24
Practical, concise, informative. The narrator did a fine job, a little heavy on the inflection at times, but I can be quite particular. The only thing keeping it from a 5 is just every now and then a slight… air about the author’s words. Idk.

Historia
Almost 40 years since its original publication, Drawing Down the Moon continues to be the only detailed history of the burgeoning but still widely misunderstood Neo-Pagan subculture. Margot Adler attended ritual gatherings and interviewed a diverse, colorful gallery of people across the United States, people who find inspiration in ancient deities, nature, myth, even science fiction. In this revised edition, Adler takes a fascinating and honest look at the religious experiences, beliefs, and lifestyles of modern America's Pagan groups.

Pam Ward does an excellent job putting a voice to this informative book. There is a lot of information here, so it can feel dense, but it isn’t difficult. Margot Adler does a beautiful job organizing and researching the information. I appreciate the updates and revisions over the years.

Revisado: 06-25-24
Sentences often repeat with different takes. Clearly they weren’t edited out. At times you can hear the narrator swallow or stumble a bit. Not a huge deal, and not the narrator’s fault, but I think whoever finalized this wasn’t paying attention. Narrator does a fine job.
Nevertheless, the book is well written and highly important. Should be a must read for all parents, caregivers, and teachers.

Eerie and psychological
Revisado: 10-09-23
Beautifully written, in such a way that it is easy to visualize the scenes but not so descriptive as to bore and utterly control your imagination.
Eerie, slow burn but not slow in a dull way. I literally could not stop listening and finished it within nearly two days of purchasing it.
Voiced exceptionally well. I’m usually very picky with narrators but Anna Massey did a wonderful job of it.

Takes me Back

As someone who grew up in Montana. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Paolini. To have experienced the world he created, at such a young age, as a fellow Montanan. It’s very magical. Thank you!
