Great continuation of Hunger Games
Revisado: 04-22-25
Maybe it is far beyond the times I read the other books in the series, but this book seemed more brutal than the others. Perhaps it is the introduction of a personal vendetta against Hamish.

Historia
Every wildfire season cloaks rural Carbon, Oregon, in smoke. This summer, all it takes is one strike of lightning for the best of friends to turn to desperate acts to make it out alive. When the latest blaze jumps a firebreak, experienced whitewater rafting guide Kristina “True” Truitt has reason to worry. Her best friend, fire battalion chief Melissa Bishop, is on the front lines. But she and Mel have a side gig vying for attention: a dangerous and illegal money drop on the banks of the wild Outlaw River—directly in the path of the fire and right under the noses of the feds.

Engaging story. From the words of the story and the narrater’s description, I could visualize the story line like it was a movie.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Especially JD Vance’s description of his boyhood was detailed and enjoyable to hear. Really demonstrated the value of strong family relationships, which he did not experience. Makes it all the more amazing how much he has succeeded in life.

Historia
Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

Great descriptions of fire fighting
Revisado: 05-19-24
While I greatly enjoyed the descriptions of preparations for jumping, of fire jumping, and fire fighting, there was too much emphasis on sex for my taste.

Enjoyed a story of retired spies as it switched from the current time of the story to interesting flash backs in Maggie’s life Also enjoyed the duplicity that each had a cover occupation and none could fully trust any of the others ever.

Historia
In the murky shadows of an alley lies a female’s severed hand. On the tenement rooftop above is the corpse belonging to that hand, a red-haired woman dressed all in black, the body nearly decapitated. Two strands of silver hair — not human — cling to her body. They are Rizzoli’s only clues, but they’re enough for her and medical examiner Maura Isles to make a startling discovery: This violent death had a chilling prequel.
