Historia
From the best-selling author of Lottery comes a new novel about greed, survival, and what's really important in life. At the bottom of the heap, there's nowhere to go but up. Waitress Tammy Tyree knows this intimately. Her life is a continual struggle of managing an eccentric uncle, looking after a younger brother who's not quite right, and doing everything she can to keep her family together in the small town of Spring, Washington.

Interesting theory
Revisado: 01-20-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
At first the concept of the story caught my interest but there were so many characters it was hard to keep them straight. it was hard to believe that so many town people could be so naive to fork over thousands of dollars in hopes of making a killing off of Tammy's so-called inheritance and it was uncomfortable to see Tammy, the benefactor, be taken in. The sound effects Tammy's brother made for communication purposes were disturbing. I felt a need to finish the book since I was to write a review but it's hard to scan an audible book so I roughed it through and finished it.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would change how the mentally challenged brother communicated audibly. It was truly annoying. Some of the dialogue was back woodsy or country but not charming.
What three words best describe Michelle Babb’s voice?
Young, girlish and southern
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No
Any additional comments?
The ending was anticlimactical. It was very disappointing.

Historia
Still Life with Bread Crumbs begins with an imagined gunshot and ends with a new tin roof. Between the two is a wry and knowing portrait of Rebecca Winter, a photographer whose work made her an unlikely heroine for many women. Her career is now descendent, her bank balance shaky, and she has fled the city for the middle of nowhere. There she discovers, in a tree stand with a roofer named Jim Bates, that what she sees through a camera lens is not all there is to life.

It was a pleasant story.

I enjoyed listening to the narrator and the dialogue but the story was not gripping, just pleasant.

Historia
Attorney Sasha McCandless is back in Irretrievably Broken. The venerable law firm of Prescott & Talbott is reeling from the murder of partner Ellen Mortenson - purportedly at the hands of her estranged husband - when a photograph of the dead woman arrives, her face Xed out and "ONE DOWN" scrawled across the bottom. Within days, a second partner is murdered, her husband also accused. Sasha doesn't practice criminal defense, so she's suspicious when her former firm asks her to represent Ellen's husband. Owing Prescott a favor, she takes the case and soon finds herself representing not one, but both, of the so-called Lady Lawyer Killers.

I read the reviews and there were so many complaints about the narrator I hesitated listening to this book. I'm glad I did. Karen's performance was OK and the story was more important than the presentation. I was on a long auto trip so it was a good story to keep me company.

Historia
A passionate and page-turning saga with an unsolved murder that consumes three lives over several decades in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Told through these three voices The Orphans of Race Point is a novel of suspense, betrayal, and the different ways we find transcendence and meaning in our lives. But most of all, it is a gorgeous and unforgettable love story.

Interesting twist
Revisado: 04-09-16
I enjoyed the narrator and the descriptions of P-town. I felt I was there in the wind and the sand and among the quirky Portuguese neighbors and family.
I enjoyed the progression of character development that kept the flow of the story going. It was so puzzling to me to have Gus imprisoned with such flimsy evidence so the twist that occurred was a total surprise. I'm listening this to this on a long auto trip so have found it very entertaining.
