Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Phenomenal
Revisado: 10-09-23
This story was just what I needed. while I always love a good SK novel, this was a refreshing departure from his suspenseful, macabre norms. This story was fantasy, literally a fairy tale, from start to finish. There were tell-tale SK styles (clear, unrambling descriptions, the perfect mix of appropriately- placed cursing, and a touch of gore), but there was also beauty and love and friendship... and a boy and his dog.
The narrator was FABULOUS and I'll be looking him up to listen to more of his reads.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

I'm in the minority
Revisado: 01-31-23
This book has had so much acclaim, it automatically made me leary, and rightfully so. While the story had some good parts, it seemed very amateur. It had great descriptions of nature, but they went on and on without a purpose. I was bored 60% of this book. The dialogue, even between socialized characters, felt choppy and insincere. I was a little offended by some of the comments made (speaking of Mabel's heavy size, ample bosom, large frame, then mentioning it was 200 lbs) but it overall felt forced and disingenuous.
Overall the story had afeel of a "Wish" knockoff version of Nicholas Sparks. Not a terrible effort for a first novel, I just didn't love it the way everyone seems to rave about it.

Historia
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

Good story
Revisado: 11-16-22
I'm always thrilled to read another John Grisham book. This story has a little more "fluff" in background stories that didn't eventually tie into the story than his normal books, which is why I rated it 4 instead of 5. Overall the story fit his style: legal thriller with action, personality, and well-written.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Decent story
Revisado: 10-03-22
This story had a great concept, but wasn't able to deliver. I kept waiting for something major to happen, but I didn't get that. It was relatively predictable and had an "It's a Wonderful Life" feel to it. It drug on rather a lot for something without a specific climax or turning point. I listened on Audible and found the narrator's voice nice and accents well done, but was slow so I had to speed up the pace at which I listened.

Just good
Revisado: 09-26-22
This book was recommended by a friend. It's just about life in general, how communities can come together over what seems to be insurmountable odds, and how new life can spring forth and flourish. The wiring was terrific and I didn't want to put it down. I listened on Audible and Will Patton did an incredible job. I love his work in general, but this book was the first I've listened to him narrate and now I'll go try to find more.

George Orwell's classic satire of the Russian Revolution is an intimate part of our contemporary culture, quoted so often that we tend to forget who wrote the original words! This must-read is also a must-listen!

I listened to Animal Farm for Banned Book Week. It was a cautionary tale how an individual or group can take advantage of others while twisting narratives and only making life worse for the ones around him.

Revisado: 09-19-22
I haven't read this book since high school, but thought I'd give it a listen on Audible since my son is reading it now for his middle school. I had forgotten how much this story was relatable and the narrator did a fantastic job. Stay gold. 💗

Good first book
Revisado: 09-17-22
Good story, a little choppy. For a debut book, it was a good story. The story was a little choppy in sequence and some details felt overly scientific when someone wouldn't have spoken that way. I listened on Audible so that helped and while the narrators' cadence was slow, the voices helped the colloquy.

She's young. She's beautiful. And her corpse, laid out in the office of Boston medical examiner Cat Novak, betrays no secrets - except for a notebook clutched in one stiff hand, seven numbers scrawled inside. When a second victim is discovered, Cat begins to fear that a serial killer is stalking the city streets: a shadowy madman without mercy or apparent motive. The police are sceptical. The mayor won't listen. And Cat's chief suspect is one of the city's most prominent citizens.

Gripping
Revisado: 09-09-22
I was hooked from the beginning. The writing not only kept me captivated, but was descriptive enough where I could envision entitlement happening, and not too much to feel cumbersome to the story. The characters were believable and I didn't see the culprit until it was almost the end. Susan Eriksen did a phenomenal job narrating and is quickly becoming a favorite reader.
