This is not what I've come to expect from Alyssa Cole, but that doesn't mean I'm not impressed. The characters feel genuine and real. The story is strong and unfold beautifully. Pacing is on point. And... this story feels eerily prescient. Secrets, heartbreak, new found love, adventure and hope.

Stunning Sequel

I have been waiting months for this sequel and I was not in the least disappointed. Roanhorse has created a thriving world and recognizable characters with personality and spark. I particularly appreciate that this is an own voices tale, and it shows as it is simply brimming with authenticity.
The narrator does a fantastic job not just with conveying story, but in giving life to characters you love to love and love to hate.
I can't wait for an third installment.

I imagine some folks will have a certain kind of expectation about this book considering the author is a WOC. I imagine that they'll read this and be surprised that The Belles won't read the way they expect. I imagine they'll be doubly surprised to learn that all the messages they thought weren't there, actually are.
Kudos to the author for this brilliant fantasy. The language is lush. The world building was inventive and intelligent and downright delicious. The characters were as they should be. Not a MarySue in the house and each one forced to earn the reader's regard.
Can't wait for the encore.

Firstly, it's always great to read stories about people of color in scifi and fantasy. We do exist in the future.
Binti was unsurprisingly inventive and well written, as this is written by Nnedi O. My favorite bit tho is that this simple tale is so chock full of potential lessons and messages. For this alone it is worth every minute it takes to complete.

Would you listen to Alif the Unseen again? Why?
I expected to enjoy this book as I am already a fan of GWW, but I was pleased with the broad scope of this story. It was fun, funny, action packed, smart, techy, fantasy, with tons of social commentary.
