Repetitive and faux deep
Revisado: 11-13-24
klavin really gets carried away with the repetition angle of trying to make his point. Not to mention, how the main character is really not that likeable and a pretty shitty assassin...I mean English professor. eyeroll!!!

Historia
Detective P.T. Marsh was a rising star on the police force of Mason Falls, Georgia - until his wife and young son died in an accident. Since that night, he's lost the ability to see the line between smart moves and disastrous decisions. Such as when he agrees to help out a woman by confronting her abusive boyfriend. When the next morning he gets called to the scene of his newest murder case, he is stunned to arrive at the house of the very man he beat up the night before. He could swear the guy was alive when he left, but can he be sure?

Revisado: 08-26-23
this book is overly boring and drags on and of course the evil white man is out to kill every "minority". the narration is subpar as well. don't waste your time.

Historia
Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Ridiculous
Revisado: 08-23-23
The story starts out OK, not great but not bad. It starts to get better after the first death but then quickly heads south. The main character is ok but he is all over the place with his attitude. The "investigation" was convoluted and ridiculous. The "reveal" is pretty lame and not that interesting. The narrator isn't terrible but he has some pretty weird/bad inflection points throughout the book. It becomes a little obnoxious but not a major issue.
Not to mention all the liberal talking points the author makes sure to hit!
I've never read/listened to Baldacci but if this is the measure of all his work, then I don't care to find more.

What Bo and Moses don't realize is that they're caught in a web of deadly intrigue spun by a seemingly insignificant bureaucratic department within the federal government.

Too Convoluted
Revisado: 06-29-23
The overall story had way too much going on and it seemed like the author was trying to fit way too much into a single book. That's not even mentioning the amount of dumb things the supposedly veteran secret service agent did. You can also see the twists coming a mile away. Jay Snyders narration was pretty much the only saving grace for this book.

James Crowley has ridden the road to Crescent City before, but never with companions like these. Never with a woman whose very presence jeopardizes everything he’s fought for over the past two decades. The swamps are a brutal, nasty place filled with creatures most people think only exist in nightmares and fever dreams. When Crowley, along with Rosa, Bram Stoker, Harker, and Irish stumble upon such a creature, and one of their party finds themselves mortally wounded, they must find help in the most unlikely of places.

No likeable characters
Revisado: 06-19-23
I was pretty disappointed with this book. I didn't like any of the characters and honestly couldn't care less about them. The main character was the least likeable person of any story I've read/listen to. He is pretty much an asshole to everyone.
Then there is the "Bad" guys who are seemingly clueless yet are supposed to be bad asses. Not to mention the extremely ridiculous mix of reasons for what they are doing.
Also, the twist can be seen coming from a mile away. This really was only partially worth the credit because of Jay Snyders narration.

Awesome!
Revisado: 06-13-23
I really enjoyed the overall story. I liked the way of showing the angels and demons fighting in the background as the people went about their lives. It was almost like 2 stories in one. The narrator wasn't bad but not the best I've heard. I'll definitely listen to the next one!

Good for what it is.
Revisado: 06-02-23
I really liked the concept of the 4 different but connected stories. The overall theme is pretty intriguing as well.
1st story- Was ok and had some interesting things bit the narration wasn't the best.
2nd story- Was better by a little. The narration was ok but not the best.
3rd story- Was the worst to me. It was pretty boring and the narration was way to over dramatic.
4th story- Was probably the best of them all. the narrator was good(mostly because he didn't try too hard to make up voices like the others.) Plus the story it's self was way more interesting.
all in all, it's worth the listen...especially since it's included.

Worlds worst detective!
Revisado: 12-14-22
I always feel weird writing reviews, especially negative ones, about books. Seeing as I could never write one.
Having said that, these books are just not that good.
I love detective mystery books and these being a 4 in 1 set, sealed the deal. It was all down hill after that.
As a whole, the "mysterys" were just plain boring. Every single one is about and elderly person. It just gets old, no pun intended. Not to mention the narrator was terrible. Some of the voices he used were laughable and others where just plain cringe worthy.
Then you get to the world's worst detective. He is constantly told by others how good he his but can't seem to figure out some of the simplest things!
Example - his sister informs him she has info on Q.D. He's genuinely confused on who/What Q.D. is. His sister informs him that she got the information HE ASKED FOR on Quincy Dunn, the main freaking suspect in their case! In a later book he is in the hospital as his sister is about to give birth. An older couple shows up to the room and introduces themselves. Giving their first and LAST name. He can't seem to put 2 and 2 together to realize it's his sister's baby daddy's parents! These are only a few examples of the terrible writing is.
