Historia
After decades of internecine warfare, the tribes of the Tiste Edur have at last united under the Warlock King of the Hiroth. There is peace - but it has been exacted at a terrible price: a pact made with a hidden power whose motives are at best suspect, at worst, deadly. To the south, the expansionist kingdom of Lether, eager to fulfill its long-prophesized renaissance as an Empire reborn, has enslved all its less-civilized neighbors with rapacious hunger. All, that is, save one - the Tiste Edur. And it must be only a matter of time before they too fall.

My favorite thus far.
Revisado: 09-16-24
As a prequel I wasn't sure what to expect, as it didn't seem to tie into the rest of the story right away. Overall, I think I have enjoyed this book much more than the previous 4, in part because of the characters but also because of the insight into the Crippled God and his machinations.

Historia
Documentary filmmaker Alice Lindstedt has been obsessed with the vanishing residents of the old mining town, dubbed “The Lost Village”, since she was a little girl. In 1959, her grandmother’s entire family disappeared in this mysterious tragedy, and ever since, the unanswered questions surrounding the only two people who were left - a woman stoned to death in the town center and an abandoned newborn - have plagued her. She’s gathered a small crew of friends in the remote village to make a film about what really happened.

Not scary as the description alluded to.
Revisado: 02-13-24
Based on the description I read, I was expecting a little more horror and less inner angst. I'm not sure some of the character deaths were necessary so I'm left feeling a bit like this is unfinished. Still, after a slow start I did want to hurry up and find out what was going on, so that's a good sign.

Great trilogy!
Revisado: 01-27-24
Often in this genre I find myself having to go back and replay the science heavy bits because there's simply too much scientific minutae. that didn't happen with this trilogy and it let me get truly lost in the story, which was great. I am always a bit worried when the main characters are teens, not sure I'll relate, but this was very well written and thought out. I thoroughly enjoyed this and highly recommend.

Historia
As a forensic psychiatrist at New York's leading institution of its kind, Dr. Lily Dominick has evaluated the mental states of some of the country's most dangerous psychotics. But the strangely compelling client she interviewed today - a man with no name, accused of the most twisted crime - struck her as somehow different from the others, despite the two impossible claims he made.

Just meh.
Revisado: 08-02-23
I listened to both Oracle offerings and loved them, so I thought I'd try something else by the same author. Unfortunately, this was not as interesting. The characters are neither likeable nor relatable. By midpoint in the book you know where they will end up, it's the only thing that makes sense, as does the outcome. With no surprises and no redemption, there just isn't much here to like.

Two Truths and a Lie. The girls played it all the time in their cabin at Camp Nightingale. Vivian, Natalie, Allison, and first-time camper Emma Davis, the youngest of the group. But the games ended the night Emma sleepily watched the others sneak out of the cabin into the darkness. The last she - or anyone - saw of them was Vivian closing the cabin door behind her, hushing Emma with a finger pressed to her lips. Now a rising star in the NYC art scene, Emma's paintings catch the attention of Francesca Harris-White, the socialite and wealthy owner of the very same Camp Nightingale.

I wanted to love it.

I was intrigued by what was causing this woman so much guilt from the onset and I was disappointed by how much that guilt was unnecessarily played up. There were plenty of opportunities for juicy plot twists and while those were hinted at, nothing ever came to fruition.

Historia
At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery - and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth - and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery...and the tools for fighting back.

Not Casual "Reading"
Revisado: 07-12-21
This book is rich in details so I found myself, often, having to go back 30 seconds to make sure I understood, especially when they talked physics. I was so invested, toward the end I kept worrying they'd leave me with a truly sad ending. I won't spoil it for you, but I was happy with the ending. Definitely going to find more books by this author.

Cannot stop listening!
Revisado: 07-07-21
I was hooked after book 1 and can't wait to move on to book 3. At the beginning of the series I was skeptical that everything seemed to be in the hands of high schoolers but the author has done a great job of keeping them teenagers while also showing their growth in light of their newfound responsibilities.
I will say there are a TON of characters to keep track of but you don't get lost as with other books. Jack is the more mysterious character, and the hardest to figure out, but I'm going to keep trying.
